jdmark
my car wont start! i was on my way to go on some trails when i slipped it in 2 besides d accidently, dont know if that has anything to do with it but right when i did that my tachometer went out (saying 0rpms when engine was still on) i turned it off to see if it would come back up and it wouldnt start up again. my cd player still works but once i turn the key all the way to start the cd player goes out and nothing happens, no starter click or anything. I suspect its a relay but im not sure which one, i replaced some but to no avail. Which one should i be looking for that would cause this? and any other suggestions on what to check. i hate electrical stuff so please help! thanks! Cuong Nguyen
Check to see if the starter cable is loose and at the battery terminals. Have someone beat on the starter while you try to start it.
Precise1
Hmm, battery ? Battery connection ?? Fusable link ? Use a volt meter and check from the battery back through the wiring. Make sure thats all ok first. B
88pathoffroad
Relays don't usually die by themselves, but it has happened. I'd check the battery first, then the fusible links, then fuses. Something caused it to cease functioning, it didn't just quit for no reason.
94extreme
the tranny thing is not any cause of this... weak battery? lights work?.. die when you crank? or just dim a little?
jdmark
heres a little additional info until i update tomorrow when i work on it- i tried jumping it, no change, and i checked most of the important fuses and they were good. i have a multimeter i just need to get good at using it, ill try tomorrow. thanks for all the help so far! Precise1
Sorry, but that happened too fast... You had power all the way back into the cab ? It could have been the ignition then, maybe just a wire... Good luck and please keep us informed. B
GrimGreg
Stupid question but, did you put it back into P or N before trying to re-start it?

k9sar
it was stuck in a bad location. better safe than sorry. Most of us work on our issues in our own driveways etc but if you're not in a convenient location and can spend the time to work on it, well... you did the right thing (though no brownie points for you)
