Engine Fan on my '92

Ok. So my fan was blowing like I had twin turbo's. Clutch on the fan was locked up. Went to the parts store and bought a new one and replaced in an hour or so (and I agree, the shroud is a bithc). Sounds nice now and I can actually hear the motor rev and the radio play. But when it warms up a little the fan starts blowing just as loud. I know it's a thermal clutch on there and this makes sense but should it blow so damned loud? Is efan a better/quieter alternative. What does efan do for MPG? I have already taken it from 14 to 18 city just by changing the clutch.

Remember, I'm new to the forum, new to Pathys, and a little rusty in the garage.

Thanks.

An e-fan is great; only runs when it needs to, barely noticable noise wise when engine is running, you can get a fan that will pull more air than the stock fan, and it helps MPG because you aren't turning that extra weight on the front of the engine.

I would get about 18mpg on long hauls before, I got 20-22mpg on a long haul after I had installed the e-fan. The short trip-in town is even a little better still, up from 14mpg to 16mpg.

^what grim said^ not only do you gain mpg's but will also pick up a couple of h.p and as lithagic our pathys are on h.p I will take all I can get.....same with a.c dont use it get rid of the belt........old hot rodders tricks B)

Busted knuckles is right. And getting it back on the water pump...JEEZ!!!

Not only are those 10mm nuts hard to keep a hold on but getting them to thread was probably the worst part of it. I had to dig them out of the skid plate 3 times after dropping them. I still have to post pics too.

elecy fan rated at 9000 cfm

gg you wouldnt happen to have mech fan cfm's would you?

i not convinced. mech fans put out huge amounts of air.

i remember vsicks talking about this years go before he did his motor swap. iirc some figures were talked about. elecy fan approx 2200-2300 cfm and mech fan around ten times that. just going by vauge memory.

I think I made an error, I'm thinking that my fan actually does around 1500cfm :hide::shrug: . I think I got the part # confused with the cfms (been 2 years since I installed the thing  ).

It's one of the largest available, a 16" Hayden.

All I have is my stock temp guage, but it can cool it from half way up the guage down to 1/4 on the guage in about 1 min.

I put a Perma Cool 16" fan on my 200SX with VG30E. I absolutely love it! You can barely hear it running, and the upper end Perma Cools run 2950cfm, which is plenty! I'm planning on putting one on my Pathy here shortly.
