Big issue help!

Hey guys, my car keeps cutting out at 2 and a half rpm. Any gear, once it hits 2 and a half it cuts out...it stutters everywhere and shakes... feels like the car is hoping.

Im thinking its the computer or o2 censor...or any censor.... any ideas?

Do you mean stops running or won't rev past 2,500 rpm?

Will it do the same thing in neutral?

If this is a recent problem, what's the last thing you did or had done to it?

Its a manual transmission.... 91 pathy 4x4 4 dr xe. Last thing i did was replace my dash as in the speedometer and rpm manifold there.... other then that nothing. Got my oil changed but the oil level is fine... It doesnt stop but when i rev higher then 2-2.5 my car hops

hops as in bucks like it's starving for fuel? does it actually DIE? or when the rpms go down it is ok again? have you changed your fuel filter lately? no.. a fuel pump going out won't show any visible signs... unless you have a fuel line gone.. but i am sure you'd notice the gas mileage drop and or smell the leaky gas

It bucks but once i go under 2.5 rpm or so it purs like a cat... runs 100% fine. Just once i go higher it bucks like it was dying for gas in a sense

When was the fuel filter last replaced?

It's 2800 RPM's, and either your TPS or your MAF is damaged or unplugged. The ECU runs the engine in "safe mode" if either of those sensors is non-responsive to prevent leaning out the engine and causing damage via detonation.

 

Check the throttle position sensor and the mass airflow sensor.

Sorry guys im not to good of a mechanic yet... i got the book but where exactly can i find the sensors and how do i go by fixing them... also how do i change my fuel filter?

fuel filter is relatively easy.i use clamps to stop the flow of gas..remove gas lines... put them on new filter and away you go.

MAF sensor is here: (circled in white) it connects to the side of your air filter box snd is held on by 2 screws.. remove and GENTLY clean the (they look like light bulb wires) wires with alcohol. if you break them.. it's expensive.

any sensors will be visible if unplugged. check around the driver side (LH) of your motor for any sensors that may have come unplugged.. check closely as there are hidden sensors all over. check your entire engine for anything amiss.

also.. if you didn't have the battery disconnected when you did whatever (i forget) you did.. disconnect your batter for 10 minutes to let the ecu reset itself.... AFTER you have checked to make sure everything is in order... that outta keep you outta trouble for a few minutes.. then we'll go from there eh

I got the book, sorry guys my first car.... just nervous to fool around under the hood. OK now strange thing is this.... Next morning I start my car...drive to the garage no issues it runs like a dream....later tonight it starts acting up again. I go to a movie.... it doesnt hop anymore after the movie but it idles at 2 rpm... im used to idling at like 800-1000 rpm and 1500 when its realy cold out. Any ideas guys... I wanted to bring it to my mechanic but it wasnt having issues, so he told me to keep driving and see if it starts up again... and it did.

O2 sensor. it really could be almost anything. loose dizzy will do that too. sounds to me like your rpms are still a bit high when at low idle.

 

have you run the ecu diagnostics yet?

ECU wont do anything cause the computer from 95 pathy down doesnt keep the history of systeme problems...resets itself. Which is why im guessing it runs fine after i turn her off for 10 min

yeah, the garage may not be a bad idea if you're too scared to mess with it. that's really the only way to find out.. systematic elimination of all possibilities.
