What tires are recommended?

People. I have a SE-6 1995 Nissan Pathfinder that is stock! I need to know what tires would be the best recommended for 4 wheeling mainly on beach sand because I am a surf fishermen! I also would use the tires for light 4 wheeling in the woods. (going over downed small trees, small boulders) I am in the market for 4 new tires in the next 3 weeks! Don't want to exceed $110, apiece!

It's entirely up to you what you buy. There's no one tire that's better than any of the rest. A/T tires are a good choice if you're not going to see much mud or snow, M/T tires are better for more traction, but are usually louder on the road.

I would go BFG A/T KO in 31x10.5R15 size, they're $117 at Tire Rack

 

While not as agressive as MTs on harsher trails, they are a fantastic all round tire for occasional wheeler.

I have found that the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO's are a good balance between offroad/bad conditions traction and highway driveability. Bonus points that they carry them at my wholesale club and I can get them a little cheaper than at the local tire store.

yup. i would have to say the BFG a/t's too. we do a lot of duning and both big chevys run a/t's and cruise the dunes all day long with no problems. they are good on road without the excessive whine you get from a m/t. a "chevron" pattern is "recommended" for sand driving.... (pro comp x tremes faired very well in the dunes too) but for what you want the a/t's are yer best bet

Thanks very much, everyone on the tire question! I have one more stupid question. You know that picture of a shock absorber on the middle console in a '95 Pathy? One setting is for 4 wheeling and one is for highway drivin'. Does anyone notice a difference when changing settings? I don't !!!

sport/comfort. I can tell a difference when I'mm offroad and have it on comfort. It body-rolls a bit more. Also, on bumpy highway driving, it's vibrates more if on sport.

When I had stock shocks, I had it to comfort on the highway and sport in the city. Found a slight difference, maybe placebo effect... dunno.

actually... mine is very easy to tell the difference. When it's set to sport, the little light is on.

31X11.5-15 kumho's mud grips at Tirerack.com to me seemed to be the most value for the buck when I was looking.

 

I ended up with B/F muds simply because I happened upon some money at the time I was ready to buy. I got them at Sams Club, they have to order them, but don't charge x-tra and installed for cheap.

 

The best advice I ever got was from SW.

Huge difference on my pathy between sport and touring. Body roll goes to almost 0 and the ride is A LOT stiffer. I actually run around with mine in sport all the time now, as I prefer the stiffer ride.

Maybe some slight rubbing at full turn if your front is sagging.

They aren't quiet, but not as bad as I recall snow tires were in my youth. Before these, I had Michelin A/T's, which were good (expensive) street tires. There is no comparison between them though when it comes to mud, snow or even heavy rain and the Yokos seem to handle corners as good as the Michelins, IMO.
