derogate
I have the money in hand right now, In USD nonetheless... Just trying organize things with the owner... that and Mr. pickles and Red, had a pathy showdown. yea, they sent me pictures and everything!... You dont want to see them though, they are way too gruesome... centerlinks and TRE's where flying everywhere, you couldn't even comprehend the carnage of it all.. oh yea, I think Pickles won, but im not sure. Ps. I made that last part up... but it doesn't change the fact that it SHOULD have happened.

Mr. Pickles
Dude, I was driving the Pathy and you were in a family car. So you're automatically disqualified until you get that truck of yours running.
RedPath88
That's right, it was such a no contest that my Pathy did not even have to show up Ok, Ok "maybe" you won due to forfeit :X Ok but to be honest, from what little I could see of P's truck, I liked it... mine aspires to be similar in the future It looked good and had a nice flowmaster sound. Next time I need to get a better look at it, maybe even a ride to see how the suspension mods have effected it
vengeful
This makes me so proud. I'm am actually amazed at how much of a family this community is! You won't very often find a total stranger, let alone TWO, who will go out of their way to check out a vehicle for you...brings a tear to my eye! I SALUTE THEE NPORA-ITES! Thanks for the kind comments Scott. The ride is actually pretty smooth these days, better than when I bought it for sure. It actually goes down the road really well, and roll around corners isn't too bad for a truck approaching 6" lift (susp + body).

DJ Dank
Yes I agree...almost brings a tear to my eye. But seriously, I really do feel a sense of "comraderie" when it comes to us Pathy owners. I don't mind going out of my way to help a fellow pathy owner in need and I think alot of people here will agree. Good job you guys!

derogate
Thus ends my the saga of the land cruiser... Its been a bit of an adventure, and I've learned alot about importing cars.... uhh my head is dizzy with gas fumes though... Forgetting your gas cap win washington will do that though I suppose... Heh, the damned Canada Customs Agents where going to seize my truck because they said I never paid what the bill of sale said I paid... yup.. they are experts on what vehicles are worth... they checked EBAY!! and all the cruisers on there where worth upwards of 5000$ USD. So CLEARLY I must be cheating them on my taxes. They threatened to Investigate and call the IRS to see how much money the guy I bought it from, deposits in his account. Since I paid with cash I had NO way of proving how much I really did pay with. I got a little worried there for a bit. but things worked out in the end. I also skipped the 3 day wait, by kind of cheating the system.. I think I can make it right next week sometime though.. I basically just skipped the export papers and went straight to importing it. canada doesn't have a problem with it, but if the US catches it in their country again without behing properly exported... it then becomes Uncle Sam's property. gotta get a jump on that too.. I have to check tommorrow To see what I have to do with regards to an inspection.. I've heard from a good friend who did it first hand, that its going to be VERY thorough and any rust bigger than a dime (not a quarter like I previously thought), or Loose bushings, TRE's Worn BJ's, or body mounts will fail me. Easy enough to fix, but we'll see. I Also heard from someone who imports frequently (8 last year) that the Federal inspections are only worried about mechanicaly saftey on the road, and the ability of the vehicle to meet impact saftey requirments (aka, no structural comprimising rust... which I'm clear of anyway). *crosses fingers* Thanks again to Red, and Pickles. You guys Rock. Sorry we couldn't meet up today, But like I said I'll be in town soon again, and I'll ring you guys up for sure. To the state of washington, and anyone else on this board from there, I say thank you, I really enjoyed my stay and was quite impressed with how friendly most people where, and how well behaved the drivers where. It was actually pleasant to drive there! (except seatle.. a bus almost killed me and my friend who was following me... there where some other crazy drivers in there too, but after seatle its was smooth sailing!) To the border gaurd who thought Our spare tire was filled with drugs, thanks for letting us get in anyway! Whew.. its half over... now just to pass the inspection. weee! Mr. Pickles
Oh man, that's crazy! I can't believe they'd put that much thought and effort into an old truck like that. If you were trying to import an Escalade bought for $10K, I'd understand the concern. Good luck from here on out, hopefully you'll find an easy going guy late on a Friday afternoon who only wants to get it over with and go home. So how was the trip back? Did you drive it up or trailer it? Sounds like it was pretty uneventful other than the border fiasco.

derogate
actually the trip was somewhat eventfull indeed! Halfway to the border it started pissing down rain. I fumbled for the wiper switch for a while... accidentally turning on my heater, hazards, and vents by mistake, then finally found it. The wipers worked pretty good for such an old beast. untill... that is... They broke. Well only one, and it was the passenger side So I didn't pull over, and just assumed my losses. I started trying to think of people who might know where I could get a replacement one incase I needed it for inspection.... not a BIG deal, but it sucked none the less... Anyhow, I get to the border and hop out to do my paper work, when I notice that very same wiper.... peacefully teatering on the fron edge of my hood! haha.. i think I scared the border gaurds I laughed so hard! kind of a releif. There was also the Violent swerving on any rutted section of the I5. Thanks partly to the 32" bf mud terrains, and the worn TRE's, I couldn't let my gaurd down for even a split second... I'm lucky i never got pulled over on suspition of DUI. That would suck, plus the fact that the vehicle didn't even technically Belong to me, or insured under my name yet. I was a little nervous to say the least eventfull, but in a good way since I made it back safe.
RedPath88
Yeah broken wipers suck... Christmas night while driving to Aberdeen, WA I had my drivers side wiper arm break, all of the sudden the wiper was at a 90deg angle and I could not see a dang thing in the heavy down pour that was happening at the moment. I had to pull off on to a should barely big enough for my truck to fit and on the inside of a near blind down hill corner and search the cab of the truck for the sole tool I had with me, a crescent wrench. Moved the Pass side arm to the drivers side , by the time I was done I was completely soaked! Get them TRE's fixed and maybe invest in a stabilizer. Searching around for a PS box and pump might not be a bad idea either. My '83 Yota was manual steering too, but after my first set of 33's I decided it was time to change that. After locating a box and pump w/brackets, hoses and reservoir it was simply a bolt in swap. Hopefully Toyota did not change anything on the frame when they added PS to the LC's Edited January 29, 2006 by RedPath88
Mr. Pickles
HAHA!!! Gotta love old trucks. This may sound lame, but RainX makes a spray on windshield product that you can apply while wet and you don't have to rub in like their other material. It actually works very well, and you can drive in most anything other than a total downpour because the water beads up and sheds off. I actually have some RainX wipes in the glovebox because of a prior dead wiper experience. Oh, and the wandering on the freeway may not entirely be the truck. My truck wanders all over hell on some spots on I5 from the truck ruts and such, and thats with a pretty sound suspension and stabilizer. Welcome to American roads I guess. RedPath88
RainX is great stuff, I have a bottle of some pink colored "RainX PLUS" washer fluid additive. I have not seen it in stores in ages but I hope to find more before I run out. It's mixed at 2oz to 1 gallon and every time you use your washers it reapplies RainX to the windshield. The stuff works great. Yeah there are several spots on I5 that can mess with bigger tires and narrower vehicles. Down south, between Longview and Centrailia, used to be REALLY bad... but they fixed that area. Now if they will just fix everywhere else Edited January 30, 2006 by RedPath88

derogate
yea, But I gotta snag em off my camera tommorrow. I'll show you guys how bad the rust really is (really not THAT bad, but the other pictures he sent me where definetly flattering). I just called up the inspection place today also! The bad news: -ANY rust holes will cause it to fail... at least any of the one's I have. -I was peeling back carpet and floor mats and found a few additional holes oln the floor pan.. nothing a little welding can't fix though. I'm kind worried how many things they will point out on the inspection... its quite a maticulous set of rules they have in their manual. - the inspector said "Oh really?? its THAT old? hmm its gonna take a little while then... wait its a 4x4 isn't it?.. K well you're looking at a 2.5 hour long inspection, so just drop it off in the morning." ---- *whimper* The Good news: umm... I can get a temporary permit on it for up to three days if i need to?... once i Fix the issues causing me to fail the inspection, the vehicle will be in really good shape and I wont have to be burdened by the pestering feelings of "oh... man I'm gonna have to fix that soon... ohwlel dont have the money right now, just put it off till later". I'll update on the inspection thing on thursday when they are done. Wish me luck, I'm gonna freakin need it!
