Suspension advice.

yeah oilman, i'm with you, a lot of it is just personal opinion. i was just making the comment that putting a 2" or more body lift on is just adding more stress to your body mounts, not that its enormously dangerous or anything. ;)

kremmen: thanks for the link =)

Some more food for thought guys and girls.

The 4x4 HB/Navara comes stock with a 2"BL out of the factory. There goes that theory of more stress and being too much more unstable. Note, it is a BL not a SL.

Also, with the steering issues that the Pathfider has, it makes more sense to BL in the first instance if you want to upsize tyres etc. and you do not want to spend a fortune on replacing steering components every time you go 4wding. A BL keeps your steering components in their factory specs and therefore will not break as easily. I would only advise a SL when you can afford to beef up all of the steering components, or if you never plan to go 4wding in the true sense of the word.

Hey all,

Just wondering if I can get some advice on suspension upgrade (currently stock). Was thinking of going with either  Ironman

or Old Man Emu.

I was going to replace shocks, springs, torsion, and get a dampener.

Any thoughts on these two products, I would like to get 2-3 inch lift over stock.

Also, I am pretty new at this, I would like to increase front height and you can do this by adjusting front torsion bars? Anyone know hoe to do this? Also what does the front torsion bar look like

Cheers

If you are hell bent on lifting the suspension I have upper wishbones for sale.

They are the same as these here (half way down the page and are a gold colour). They correct the ball joint angle after raising the TBs.

PM me for pics and price if you are intersested. I no longer need them.

I think that's right. Pathys all have ten body mounts, and they're fairly securely built. Older trucks with larger bodies and of course 20 years worth of road salt, etc on the underbody parts are of COURSE worse to body lift just for the reasons already stated. On the Pathy in most cases it's not an unsafe idea. I've never heard of any body lift failures on any Nissan of any sort.

Except my buddy Steve-O, who nose-dived his Pathy over a sand dune and shifted the entire body forward so the bolts were at angles... O.o

Thanks for the input on the BL vs SL topic, Vsicks. Good points all.

LMFAO !!! Yeah, V6 is right... But it was a cement island for a light pole, and yeah, I was the a$$ who did it, so just shut it !! :D Still F-ing laughing... *sigh*

If is isn't raining tomorrow, I'll take picts of the bent bolts... that whole sorry story is why the Pathy will be SAS'd and I plan on a 1 or 2" lift before so I can replace the bolts and let isht settle...

That said, I'm not a fan of BL and will stay as low as I can go. I don't plan to run larger than 31" tires so I hope I don't need it. I like the CG as low as possible, and perfer the suspension to do the work. The SA should take care of the Pathy front end weakness and I'll have a low, capable rig (under-armored to hades, I'll make the plates) that will crawl, slither and skip anywhere that is remotely reasonable for it to go... When I'm done (hopefully this year !!) it's still a daily driver; if I don't take the Bug or Bike...

Odds are fairly good that you are going to end up with a pretty funny looking beast if you stick with 31's after a SAS

Most of the ones I have seen have really raised the trucks up, compared to stock. But they have also all (afaik)been custom setups and not premade kits (like you are looking for?)... desired tires size was likely taken into account when the SAS was built, so it might be possible to keep it low enough for a 31 to "fit" properly

Possibly, I did consider that... But then I'm not going for 'as tall as I can', just enough for the front to flex. Without work (intake and headers) I don't think the 3.0 can effectively pull anything bigger than 31" tires.

Personally, I don't care what people think it looks like... When I slither past their buried or highcentered butt, I'll be sure to smile and wave !! WAVEY

Raining hard enough for it to flood today, so no picts yet...

As I mentioned once before in another Post, if your looking into purchasing Rancho 9000x (9 way adjustable) series shocks, Then I strongly Recommend that you do not Purchase Calmini's UCA's. The Rancho's are beefier in their design and much thicker then most of the other shocks. The UCA's Calmini sells actually wedge against the shocks at angles and Don't allow for proper Clearence. Obviously due to the fact that they were designed to go along with the Calmini Shocks.

Calmini UCA's + Rancho 9000x shocks = :furious:

(a long time without posting...) B)

As you've been talking about stress & body lifts...

What about a 6" body lift? :D

I'm gonna post pictures later. There's a shop in Sao Paulo/Brazil who does the work and a guy from our Yahoo! forum put the BL in his Pathfinder. :o

I'm wondering if that's secure at all...

I have a 3" PA BL on my 96 tacoma and a 3" Revtek SL and run 33x12'50s no problem. It also ran 35's with alittle bit of rub so I trimmed the fenders.

Anyway, my question is do you think the 3" BL from the Tacoma would work on the Nissan? I know I had to raise my body from the radiator but I could get a bracket for that. alos there was an extension for the steering colum and shifter which should be easy to fix. I was just wondering if the 3" lift colums would work.

I would like to put the 33's on my 95 Pathfinder.

What would be the best and not that expensive route to go with a 3" BL and a 3" SL?

Thanks,

Paul
