lgranch
You can replace your VG30I with lots of different choices.... wrong. Unless you want to change out the computer and the wiring harness you are stuck with a VG30I. You could also change out the intake for the carburator. Now a potential problem with JDM is that you will have to change out compoents also to match ou pathy. A good rebuild kit will run about $650 and takes alot of time. Junk yard motors have the problem in that you do not know what you are getting. You did not say what the issues were nor did you say auto or 5 speed. These could influence you decision. hastifc
1 cyl low on compression, sitting at 100 lbs., and a botched xh stud removal ending in broken drill bit in head with a pierced water jacket. and a leaking rear main, and serious lack of power. the other cyls were sitting around 130-140 lbs. auto, so i need all the power i can get.... Precise1
Well, sounds like it needs work for sure although a rebuild doesn't adress the water jacket issue. Is that something that can be welded ? Would you do the rebuild yourself ? B
hastifc
in another time i would rebuild myself, but now i lack time and patience. i located a jdm motor for 729.00. 12 mo warranty from a local place. sound reasonable??
Harbinger
Sounds pretty good to me -- Never had to replace an engine myself, but thats only slightly more than an rebuild kit (as listed above) and comes with a warranty. Of course I'd say spend the money and swap with a 350, but thats just an very expensive option :-)
Precise1
$729 for a motor with 12 month warranty is not bad at all. First thing I would do is compression check it as soon as it is installed, and if anything is weak, blow it up... B
Casey.T
$729 for a motor with 12 month warranty is not bad at all. Is that with a Core??? The one I have here locally is $850, no core fee.

Casey.T
It would be worth the 2 tanks of gas for me to drive to Seattle Area to pick on up for myself if no core. The one here in Spokane only has a 90 warrenty.

88pathoffroad
Hey, I wonder if there's any benefit to running a JDM intake like the one on there. That's nothing like the regular VG30E US-issue intake. o.o If you want to get rid of that intake and FI setup, let me know. I wouldn't mind having that to play with.
