  1. after 2 months and lots of setbacks, the red devil lives!! oil leak was the oil pan gasket. the gasket set came with a pan gasket that went all the way around the pan. wrong application!! oh well, live and learn, i guess.. as long as everything is ok, this should be the last post on this.
  2. rear main seal leak was not the seal after all. seems the rear main seal retainer is not shaped the same from oil pan to oil pan. be very anal when doing an engine swap.... waiting on a new retainer from dealer to replace the one that went to scrappers before i realized the prob... oooops. on that note, i am officially over budget and underfunded. anyone looking for thorley headers? new, test fit, never run. fits 89 vg30 standard, auto with massaging of collector. 350.00 + shipping new, now 300.00 + shipping. out of time, patience, and positive attitude.
  3. sorry, down with the flu. :sniff:  scheduled for the first weekend after new years if i live........
  4. rear main seal just let go.....
  5. best bet is to swap everything over. everyone keep their fingers crossed, gonna fire it up tonight!! also, didn't have time to mod the header, fed up with the truck right now. the headers may go up for sale if i don't feel like messing with it anymore......
  6. who here has installed the thorley headers in an auto? getting interference with the 3-bolt flange and the tranny sump and cooler line at the banjo. first option is to pie-cut right behind the flange and angle away from the tranny. option two is to cut cooler line at banjo, reroute with soft line, and header will still be tight. any ideas????
  7. if auto, don't need to pull diff. or trans. only stick.
  8. don't buy their install kit. bunch of useless gaskets for too much money. motor was very clean in the rocker area, no coking.pain in the ass for me to pull the motor, and whatever you do, don't go by the chiltons manual, it's crap.
  9. a lot of things have conspired against me, but it is coming along, just too slowly. 8 diff trips to the parts store, wife having 4 wisdom teeth yanked, fam functions.......have had to switch oil pans, dipstick location, new t belt, tomorrow the intake and then should be close to stuffing back in.
  10. salvage yard would be a good start. odds of getting another bad one are slim.
  11. i will say this much: i was surprised at how well the wiring is laid out. i started toying with the thought of a paxton style sc, but woke up to reality. i do however have an extra megasquirt brain from another project......
  12. i swear, taking out a motor and disassembling the accessories is is like unfolding origami! nissan really had a sick sense of humor! to the people that haven't had the pleasure of this, take lots of happy pills first! to those that have, you can laugh at me now... and 88, we'll talk after i'm done tortuing myself... oh yeah, are they joking??? i have to drop the front diff to get the motor out. huh????? stupid oil pan.... :furious: :help: -alcohol-
