Guest scpathfinder8301
I have a 1994 nissan pathfinder le v6. I just cleaned my maf sensor still idel is bad! I did the computer thing under the passenger side seat and the lights blinked at the same time. The red light did not blink by its self and the green did not blink by its self. So i looked in my book that i have on the pathy and it says that it could be a # of things. I turned the idel up and its ok but the moter runs to high in park lol. Just put a new 02 sensor in and sparkplugs. My wires are crappy could that cause a bad idel. The idel gets real bad when i have the AC on it gos up then down at stops only. One time it cut off all together. If anyone can help me plzzzz do.
tbecktold
It could be the knock sensor. (in the distributer) My pathfinder (extreme90path) is ideling really bad and I have pulled codes. Fixed them, but I am convenced that it is the knock sensor. FYI the knock sensor is built into the distributer, so you have to replace it whole unit. (90-95). Hope this helps. -Extreme90path

88pathoffroad
What have you been smoking, tbeckhold? The knock sensor is in the center of the top of the engine, under the intake. The crank position sensor is inside the distributor. You can simply unplug the knock sensor to test if it's causing your problems or not. Get a Chilton's manual or a factory service manual for the specifics.
revgolem
And yes, bad plugs and wires could cause the problems you are experiencing. so could plugged injectors, a bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, worn cap and rotor, dirty air filter... I would definatly suggest going through some diagnostics in a manual to isolate to problem(s) before just throwing new parts at it. It will save you a lot of time, money and frustration in the long run.
tbecktold
That wasn't me 88. Remember extreme90path? That was him, I let him use my comp (He was that guy who had a white pathy with a 3" bl and a roofrack on 31" TXRs on XE steelies, thought he'd blown it up, but it had actually just ingested some water. He sold it and got it back and is now trying to get it going again. He said he posted using my name and I've been looking around trying to find this damn post to see what happened. As to me, I know nothing about the VG series motors, wouldn't've said anything in this post, I'm just trying to do some research as I'm looking at a '95 wd)
mws
Include the IAC valve in the list of suspects.
Guest scpathfinder8301
Ok well its not the ait filter i got one on those cone ones. And its clean. It might be the spark plugs oe the wires. Wires are old and falling apart but never seen a truck do this before because of the wires. Just had a fuel filter changed so i dont know why that would be messing up? So i just dont know lol. k9sar
when it's sitting at idle and running rough, wiggle the wire and connector on your MAF. Even though you cleaned the sensor wire, the 94/95 design had an issue with the connector on top of the MAF and it's associated wire making bad contact or even breaking. I tuened my connector into a 90degree turn rather than let the wire get flexed each time I opened/closed the hood
revgolem
If the wires are really that bad it's definatly worth a shot. I've had a lot of cars come into the shop running poorly because of just that reason.
94 Pathy
88 is correct on the knock sensor position. I replaced mine a year ago and it's running alot better. You'll be looking at an afternoon to do all the work if you are mechanically enclined and have a manual to help. Good luck!
Animal
except, and I wouldn't mentioned this except that it could cause some grief should someone attempt to purchase the part.... The sensor in the distributor is called the cam position sensor. Some Nissan engines do have a crank position sensor, but, as far as I know, not Pathfinders through '95 (perhaps later). Engines with this sensor have it located on the rear left side of the engine. It picks up the rotation of the fly wheel and is used only for diagnostic purposes. Precise1
scp... Go to the Garage forum and look in the How To section at the top. There will be an entire thread about reading the ECU there. As for the othe dingus, I have no idea. B
