Why is my brake light on?

yeah so, I turn the truck on last night, and the brake light in the top left corner of the inst. panel stays on, but the E-brake is down as far as it goes and there is no wheel tension like when it is engaged. what to do?

did you just adjust anything on the drums? b/c sometimes in mine after i do work on my drums the light will stay on for a lil while until it wears in the shoes i guess...but i know a guy that has a 95 hardbody with the 4 cyl and ever since he had the truck so he just put black electrical tape over it so he doesnt have to see it at night

mine does the exact same thing. one random day, it came on and it wont go off.

Check the switch on the drivers side base of the handbrake under the console. If it works properly, the contact piece may have to be bent for adjustment.

Check your brake fluid level. As the front pads wear, the system fluid level decreases, triggering the light.

 

Also check your front brake pads. They may need replacement soon.

Yep, it's the brake fluid.

Just add some, and you will be fine. Checking brake pads is also recommended.
