vidro
Just picked up a 95 XE Path Finder, 220,000 miles, front windshield cracked, 5 speed manual trannie thrashed, 5th gear gone. Exterior excellent shape no dents, glossy paint. Interior excellent, no rips, no cracks. Outside of trannie everything works well. Dropped a grand to pick this rig up, do you think that was to much? Is there an overhaul kit available for the manual transmissions?
Precise1
Well, the miles are a little high for my taste, but for a grand, I'm not knocking it !! One guy has cracked 500,000 miles with no repairs (just maintenence) I believe. As long as it hasn't been abused, it can still run quite a while longer ! A compression check may be a good idea. How old is the timing belt, try to find out or change it, this is an interference motor... MaritimeMan just rebuilt his stick, he would know, but he is out to sea right now. lgranch is a tranny wiz, he may know as well as several others. Hang tight, I'm sure the'll post soon. Congrats on the purchase. One you get it rolling, I'm sure you'll like it ! B
FLApathy
yeah thats pretty good find and its a standard which is better to wheel with and like precise1 said what for the tranny guys to post, trannys arent the best things to work on they are hard, but you can go to a shop have them fix it for a ton of money or go to junk yard but if you do go to the junk yard beware that it may not be any better than the one you have and may need some attention and it may be a good idea to browse aroud the forums, which im sure you figured out, to see what common problems happen with these pathfinders Edited July 22, 2005 by FLApathy
Slick
Congrats on your purchase! I also have the 5 spd tranny.. 132,000 miles n smooth as a kitten so far. If you can do work on trnnys.. more power to ya... if not.. have it rebult by a reputable garage... good luck!
vidro
Just got her home She runs good as long as you shift from 2nd to 4th and by pass 3rd and forget about 5th. I'll be doing a lot of posting so bare with me. Thanks guys Was there more than 1 model of 5 speed trannie or were all manual tranmission during this year the same one? I'll keep editng ths post as I keep thinking of questions. I notice that the crash rating on this vehicle is poor, would a cattle guard Grill/bumper help in safety? I'm thinking about letting my boy drive it and God forbid there be some iknd of accident. I would want as much between him and what ever it is that might be in collision with him. I need to ask, It took my a while to find this forum, I post a request on the "NissanClub" site for asistance in locating a "PathFinder" forum. I t maybe just me but is there some recentment from the "Tuners" towards off road guys or/and Pathfinder owners? I never did get any responce from that forum "nissanclub". After reading a couple of post at that site I have to say that if what I read, the verbaige used and the contents, is any indiciatoin of the mentality and persona of these guys I'm glad I'm not associated with "tuners". I' m no a prude but give me break. Edited July 23, 2005 by vidro
GrimGreg
It should be a FS5R30A Depending on what has failed you might be able to rebuild it.

FLApathy
yes exactly, tuners suck they cant even go over speed bumbs and in this sport you can fabricate stuff and make it work and if you see someone stuck in the mud you help him/her out because if you were stuck you would want them to help you
Slick
As for crash ratings... yeah.. Pathys don't rate real high.. but there again.. Pathy drivers tend to be a bit more careful than our full size truck drivin counterparts.... please... don't anticipate a crash... that's bad.. but your Pathy sure wouldn't crumble like some other SUV's I have seen after a seemingly low speed..low impact crash. Good insurance is key *winks*.... As far as I know there is only one model of tranny from 90-95 I believe? Correct me if I am wrong anyone? The brush guard.. will help a little.. but not really prevent anything from NOT folding or breaking.....probably cause more damage to the vehicle you hit with it.... Just goes to show the mentality of some people... like Greg said.. making up for other things... I make up for my "femaleness" by parking on handicapped ramps in front of my house..... and posting in the middle of the night drunk.. but I hope I don't offend anyone with it...? Mr. Pickles
I've been in a moderate wreck where the other dumba@@ roadrage dude locked the brakes after cutting me off and other such fine things, and I drove away while his Taurus was towed in pieces (with police in tow). It should be a fine vehicle, the ratings are just dependent on the vehicle.
lgranch
Transtar Industries has a rebuild kit for the 5 speed FS5R30B to fit your Pathy. The problem is they expect that all of the gear teeth are ok and not broken. While kit includes most of the wear parts, drive gears are generally not considered wear parts. Now Maritimeman stripped the teeth off of his drive gears, so a kit would have done him no good. Depending on where you live in the country (your personal info sheet doesn't say) you can get a used or even a rebuilt 5 speed for around $850. Some come with warrenties and some come with free shipping. (5 speeds are easy to warrenty, don't believe a warrenty on an auto) The site to check is car-part.com. This lists many recycle yards. Find one that is close so you can go and look at the tranny first. If there is none close to you then there is a guy in Colorado who ships for free. (yea right the shipping is part of the price) But he is reasonable for his prices. -bounce-
88pathoffroad
Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about accidents or crashing unless you tend to drive it more like a car than like a truck, cause it IS a truck. It weighs over 4000 lbs. Be careful with it, that's all. The brushguard won't help much, but it sure does make nice dents on your body if a minor accident happens...after which most people take it off and toss it. I accidentally creamed the back end of an Intrepid once, the car's trunk and taillights were mushed and all that happened to my Pathfinder was a broken fog light. vidro
I would be interested but I'm in the process of figuring if the one I have is worth rebuilding or not. Are you in Texas?
lgranch
How are you coming on that 5 speed? If you open it up and find trashed gears, just find a replacement.
vidro
Haven't dropped it yet. Trying to get my ducks in a row, I've called around to junk yards and tranny shops to see if worse comes to worse how much I should be saving up.
lgranch
I think I saw you were in TX. So Diamond Auto in San Antonio = $400, Action Auto in Ft Worth = $650, ASAP motors in Houston= $795 Thats a start
wheelmanLS1
Not to change the subject, just a quick answer will work. Has anybody changed from an automatic to a manual transmission? I'm tired of almost dying when trying to get on the freeway.... I need more acceleration.
IpathyXe
Yeah I want to change to standard also...
sammyb33
yes it can be done. i have done it, and milehighcowboy is currently attempting it as well. it takes a lot of know how, and the ablility to drop a tranny. if you really want to start figureing out what u must do, you can PM me, but it is a lot, a lot of work that is easily doable, but if you feel the least bit hesitation on doing it, i wouldn't think about doing it.
