MrFister1975
Hello Folks, I am about to do a full Tune-Up on my 95 SE, and was looking for some Plugs g Wires suggestions. I have been eyeing the NGK Iridium IX Plugs, and the NGK OEM replacement wire set, ignition coil, & O2 sensor. I was wondering if anyone has this setup or any other suggestions? Thanks in Advance, Mr. F
Slartibartfast
I've got the NGK wires on mine and they've been fine, apart from when some kind of furry vermin chewed part of the insulation off of one of them. Ignition coil seems like a rare failure on these, so I'd probably skip that unless you have reason to believe it's crapping out. IIRC I used NGK platinums on mine. No issues there either. 5523Pathfinder
You do not need the iridium plugs. V-power plugs work fine, change them every 50k. NGK wires will last you 100k. Same with the O2 sensor. Be sure to double check the timing while your at it. Edited April 1, 2018 by 5523Pathfinder

SpecialWarr
The coil can put out about 35-38000 volts (one of the highest in a regular truck ) so good wires and excellent grounds are needed to make sure that gets through the plugs. I highly recommend using the dielectric grease that comes with the wires on both ends! It helps! Plugs can be almost any in the right heat range, length and projection. Dirt cheap Champion all the way to Bosch iridium will make virtually no difference. I like the Bosch and NGK because they are easy to find albeit pricy. But for $35 for 6 plugs the Champions are tough to beat! A touch of anti-seize on the threads and good to go!
adamzan
I always use NGK V-power or ac delco (the normal ones). Depending on what's available. Iridium plugs in anything that doesn't come stock with it is just wasting money. I use OEM wires because all the aftermarket ones seem to be @!*%. MrFister1975
Ok so NGK Wires, NGK V-Power plugs, Duralast cap and rotor. I just replaced all 3 belts with Gates XL Belts. I also had to install a new cooling fan due to the shroud being cracked. I also change my oil and filter every 3000 to 5000 miles with Castrol GTX 10W-30. I live down in Florida and 10w-30 is S.O.P. down here. Now with all that said and done, what else should I check and/or replace as part of a solid tune-up. Thanks for all the advice, you guys are saving me a ton of time as well as money. Mr. F Edited April 2, 2018 by MrFister1975
adamzan
If it's running fine, and the timing belt has been done recently, roll on brother.
MrFister1975
I just bought it in December and have no idea what has been done to her. It is running great honestly, especially compared to my XE that is sitting in the backyard as my as needed parts truck. I will say the difference in the base model 5-Speed XE to the fully loaded Automatic SE is night and day.
