My name is James currently living in Vancouver, Canada and I've been in the car modifying world for almost 10 years now building my 1997 Nissan 240sx (named Yokosuka Nights - see what I did there ) It's built as a street-driven drift car and even landed a full legnth feature in Super Street magazine which is the holy grail for us ricers haha.Current form: IMG_20150717_163022 by james kent, on Flickr ANYWAY, enough about that, I know a drift car is a tough sell to a bunch of 4x4 guys haha.Fast forward to last November, It was time to get a new winter car and I PROMISED myself I would get something that I couldn't modify. A girlfriend of mine's boyfriend was selling his 1998 QX4 for a steal. Only 220kms, great shape inside and out and a bunch of recent maintenance done. Perfect. Well after I took the car home I pretty much immediately stumbled across this forum......and so began the Yokosuka Heights QX4 build!The night I brought her home:Pretty soon after I took it up north to a place called Squamish to play in some snow. I learned a lot that day as I got stuck in about a foot of snow and had to get pulled out by a Ford Fiesta with snow tires Over the years of building my car, I've developed a strong connection to get parts straight from Japan, specifically the Yahoo Japan Auctions. After quite a bit of searching I came across these gems - SSR Pronghorn's 15x8 -1 offset. These are so rare that google images barely turns anything up about them. The reason I love them so much is that they are the 6-lug version of the popular vintage Japanese car wheel the SSR Longchamp XR4. They need a little work cosmetically but for about 500 USD for the set to my door, I'm not complaining haha. If anyone needs help getting stuff over from Japan, get at me, I'm always willing to help! Next up was the lift. As per the many suggestions on this very forum, I went with the Fleury 2" lift front and rear. Amazing service and a quality product. Ive gone pretty ham on these things since and they've held up no problem!A little before/after:Next up were the tires: After much research I decided to go with BFG KO2's. The initial plan was to play it safe with 31's but literally last second when I made the order I switched to 32's. You've seen my car, tire rubbing is nothing new to me I figured so I'd be able to figure it out. Unfortunately there were clearance issues with the front brake calipers so I had to pick up a set of 25mm spacers. This didnt scare me though I've ran massive 50mm spacers on my car for years to fill out the widebody with no problems. Living in the city made it a little difficult to flex it out and test the new setup, but I made it work The true drifter in me decided to 'sticker tune' the truck tastefully: It was finally time to do some offroading (for the first time in my life actually) There is a pretty cool local spot not far from the city called Triangle Beach with some decent terrain for playing around. My good buddy and photographer Jason Manchester tagged along and took some really cool shots. 10 minuted into the trails and I was hooked! More parts! Waited 3 month backorder for these bad boys but well worth the wait. These are the 2" longer than stock ones as per, again, the helpful members of NPORA.Mandatory new equipment test I'll wrap this up for now. I'm excited to see some of the JDM mods you are planning, sound like a lot of the stuff I want to do. It seems that you already have the low down on some of the JDM sources but I might be able to help track down some parts should you need a hand.
