1st Pathfinder in Texas

Recommended Posts

Well, I bought a 1997 Pathfinder SE yesterday. 143k for $1400, so I got a great deal. But it has the death wobble!! I still enjoy working on my own vehicles, but as the manager of a Firestone, I am going to cheat and do the suspension repairs on a lift!!! It seems to be pretty solid mechanically with a few cosmetic repairs needed.

I am not sure what I am going to do as far as a lift, since I have only had Jeeps in the past. I have alot of research and studying to do...but that is half the fun!

I do have one question. It came with 265/70-15 tires, but it sure looks like 31x10.5x15 would be a perfect fit...any input?

Again, glad to be here and excited for the journey!

31x1.5x15....do it...that should have been the stock tire size.

Thanks, I am service manager at Firestone, so I had a pretty good idea, but I wanted some confirmation!!!

Howdy, and welcome! Sounds like you got a good deal, especially if it only needs a few details...

265/70/15 are essentially 30" tires, so yes, the 31" should fit, with a few exceptions. If you change rims/back spacing, you can get some rubbing at full lock, and likewise if your suspension has sagged a bit. As for lifts, all the info is here for anything from 3/4" spacers to 4" sub-frame drops. I highly recommend you decide what lift you want to do, then decide on tire size, unless you only want to clear a specific tire size.

Have fun looking around!

I am service manager at Firestone so I have access to MANY ODBII readers. So, after plugs, wires, cap and rotor...I have P0300 random misfire codes. I am going to get out the good computer tomorrow and do diagnostics on it. The odd thing is, it runs GREAT when cold, but as soon as it gets warm, it starts running rough, and as it warms up, it continues to run worse til it will barely run. I am off the the Garage section to look for ideas, though I have several of my own.

Download the FSM from the pinned thread in the Garage section, the trouble shooting section is pretty helpful. It is obviously getting bad info to the ECU, since it is only when it warms up. The fact that it gets worse when it gets warmer makes me think the temp sensor for the ECU may be failing. IIRC there is a resistance test cold and at temp...

Well...it was the distributor!!! The frustration has been that each time I get it fixed, something completely unrelated goes wrong!!!! It has been setting for with minimal use for the last couple of years, and I know that is the issue, but it doesn't minimize the frustration!!

That is a bit of a mystery. I had P0300 (Random Misfire) and P0301, p0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and P0306, which is a misfire from each cylinder. I had new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, but I checked all of them. So, I know a guy who is parting out a Pathfinder with a blown engine, pulled the distributor and put it in, problem solved!!! I only have about 100 miles on it, but so far it is running perfect. I plan on tearing the distributor down and seeing what is going on, just haven't had the chance. I am guessing the sitting has caused a bearing to seize up or corrosion on the wiring. But that is for another day!!

Well, it is running perfectly, though the Check Engine light is still an intermittent issue. It is giving me emissions codes, but if I leave it alone, it will go off for several days, then on for a couple. I am going to wait it out, but I am afraid I am looking at a charcoal canister and a purge valve. I may try another new gas cap first, but not hopeful. But I do love the vehicle, very fun and nimble little truck.
