  1. Well, it is running perfectly, though the Check Engine light is still an intermittent issue. It is giving me emissions codes, but if I leave it alone, it will go off for several days, then on for a couple. I am going to wait it out, but I am afraid I am looking at a charcoal canister and a purge valve. I may try another new gas cap first, but not hopeful. But I do love the vehicle, very fun and nimble little truck.
  2. That is a bit of a mystery. I had P0300 (Random Misfire) and P0301, p0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and P0306, which is a misfire from each cylinder. I had new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, but I checked all of them. So, I know a guy who is parting out a Pathfinder with a blown engine, pulled the distributor and put it in, problem solved!!! I only have about 100 miles on it, but so far it is running perfect. I plan on tearing the distributor down and seeing what is going on, just haven't had the chance. I am guessing the sitting has caused a bearing to seize up or corrosion on the wiring. But that is for another day!!
  3. Well...it was the distributor!!! The frustration has been that each time I get it fixed, something completely unrelated goes wrong!!!! It has been setting for with minimal use for the last couple of years, and I know that is the issue, but it doesn't minimize the frustration!!
  4. I am service manager at Firestone so I have access to MANY ODBII readers. So, after plugs, wires, cap and rotor...I have P0300 random misfire codes. I am going to get out the good computer tomorrow and do diagnostics on it. The odd thing is, it runs GREAT when cold, but as soon as it gets warm, it starts running rough, and as it warms up, it continues to run worse til it will barely run. I am off the the Garage section to look for ideas, though I have several of my own.
  5. This thing is killing me...check engine light is back on, barely runs, back in the shop for more of my money!!
  6. Well, I finally got the Pathy to pass smog tests AND eliminated the death wobble!!! Now it is time start doing the little cosmetics it needs and I am good to go!!! I will take pics soon
  7. Because all vehicles have different torque specs for lug nuts (and some even have multiple options depending which wheels you have) installing lug nuts without using a torque wrench is playing your own personal game of roulette.
  8. MY issue with the engine flush, is in the cylinder. Over time, we will develope scoring in the cylinder walls. These will be filled with "sludge". When you clean this out, you start blow by. Now, you take an older vehicle with 150k, there will be ALOT of scoring, thus resulting in ALOT of blow by!! I am more inclined to remove my oil pan, clean the sludge out, then do a quick oil change. I usually only go 500 miles then change oil again.
  9. Also look at cv axles...very common to make noises when turning tight
  10. Thanks, I am service manager at Firestone, so I had a pretty good idea, but I wanted some confirmation!!!
  11. I was on Ebay earlier and the middle portion of the bumper was on there.
  12. I am getting into this late, and as a shop manager that works on all vehicles, my knowledge is not Pathy exclusive. But as a rule of thumb, a vibration is not caused or fixed by an alignment. A nearly CONSTANT vibration suggests loose or worn parts (bearings, tie rods, bushings, ball joints, etc), a vibration that occurs at a speed window ( usually a 5 to 10 mph window) is something out of round or balance (tire out of balance or bad tire).
  13. Pics will come...I am off today, so I won't begin the journey until tomorrow!
  14. Well, I bought a 1997 Pathfinder SE yesterday. 143k for $1400, so I got a great deal. But it has the death wobble!! I still enjoy working on my own vehicles, but as the manager of a Firestone, I am going to cheat and do the suspension repairs on a lift!!! It seems to be pretty solid mechanically with a few cosmetic repairs needed. I am not sure what I am going to do as far as a lift, since I have only had Jeeps in the past. I have alot of research and studying to do...but that is half the fun! I do have one question. It came with 265/70-15 tires, but it sure looks like 31x10.5x15 would be a perfect fit...any input? Again, glad to be here and excited for the journey!
