stabworthy
just finshed tbelt replace. the belt whining , i can barely hear it ( without fan) at idle, when i give gas and rpm come back down , it sounds like a turbo spooling down. so i guess the a little too much tension. my question is will it be ok/ , does it need time to break in? the sound does not brother me , i just want to be reassured it ok. adamzan
If it sounds like this, it won't go away. If its just a subtle noise it probably will.
k9sar
Oh, it'll go away eventually, one way or another.

Precise1
I agree with Adam, a little noise shouldn't hurt anything as the belt will stretch slightly. I helped with a timing belt on an inlaws R50 and it whined a little at first as well. I believe K9sar went to the other extreme where his was so tight it broke the tensioner bolt? Been a while... devonianwalk
lol i.e. damn dyslexia Mine had a fairly audible whine that went away after a couple of weeks of regular driving. They should put a notice/warning ticket for this in the original timing belt packaging.

adamzan
If its loud all the time, its bad. But if its only when the trucks real warm, and the a/c is on, its probably fine.
stabworthy
its bad , but luckily i have a loud radio .... and exhaust
byob
It depends how loud. Done correctly it will not whine. If it is too tight it will snap a cam or prematurely wear out the tensioner bearing. If it is very slight run it
