Darek
I have an oil leakage from transfer box. Meachanic says that oil seal should be replaced. I am sure that he have not done it on Pathfinder before so I would like you to give me some hints so I could check if he is doing it properly. Also I would like to know which seals should be replaced: center case, shift shaft or rear and what part number it is. Thank you in advance

Alkorahil
This is a straight forward job, no need to remove the transfer case at all. Unbolt the front propeller shaft from the transfer case drain the transfer case oil remove the old seal carefully tap the new seal in place rebolt the front propeller shaft to the transfer case refill the transfer case with new oil. PART NUMBER: 33216-33G01 DESCRIPTION: SEAL, OIL, TRANSFER. If you choose to do the rear output propeller oil seal, it is the same proceedure. PART NUMBER: 33142-33G10 DESCRIPTION: SEAL, OIL, REAR Edited November 26, 2013 by Alkorahil

Rick13
Sorry, lurking... Darek, so is your leak from the output shaft and not between the "middle" and "rear" parts of the case? Sorry if I missed that. I'll be happy for you if it's as simple as described! Not trying to thread-jack, just trying to learn something. Alkorahil
oohhhh. thats a good point Rick13!!!! I should have looked at it more closely, it could be coming from the t-case gasket there or just draining down from up higher and collecting on that seam. Let us know if it is coming from there or not Darek!
Darek
Thank you guys. In fact I don't know where the leak is coming from exactly. I'll wash it and check for leak source after some time.
msavides
since is is so simple to replace the output shaft seal, you could just replace that and see if the leaking stops. I am a firm believer that if one is leaking the others are soon to follow, If it is not a major job to replace the output shaft then, I always say do the cheaper/ easier one first if it stops leaking your done. if it still leaks you then have to do the big job. Just my 2 cents for what its worth also just noticed you also have a drain plug in the vicinity that could be the culprit. Darek
I washed the transfer case and after almost 2 weeks everything is clean except area where the drive shaft is connected to the transfer case. So I'll replace front oil seal only.
