CV Boots

Hi Again,

Just noticed that my CV boots (outer ones) are all torn.

Probably as a result of my recent 3" BL + 3" SL + 33" BFG tires

I am running now.

So I am in the market for some new boots. I searched online and

came across the following very nice RED color boots that I like

to put on:

Red CV Boots

I am not sure though if all CV Boots are the same size or not? and if

they are interchangeable between different car models or not?

The RED ones I came across above were made for a VW Buggy.

Do you think they would fit in our PF?

Are you aware of anyone selling RED Boots for the WD21 CV?

Hey William.

I just did my CV boots not too long ago as well. A member here discovered some good quality boots to use that are excellent quality. Here's the link to that thread. I purchased mine from Cardanic Driveline in Toronto. You want Part #'s 166-21 and 166-22A which are the inners and outers. I had no issues with these guys at all. I just called them and ordered them over the phone with Mastercard, called them a week later and they had been there. Here's the page showing the Part #'s for the years. CV Boot kits You'll still need a tool to get the new CV boot Clamps on properly so if you bring them to a shop, with the boots installed, they will probably lock the clamps on free of charge. Thats what I did.

Well guys. Thx really for the hints and the pointers. Always a treat to read your replies :)

I found partial measurements for our WD21 CV Boots from the FSM as follows:

CVBoots-GenuineDimensions.jpg

There is an online retailer selling colored CV Boots. He was not

able to confirm if his boots fit our WD21 but sent me the limited

sizes that he has in stock:

1. Length: 4.055, Bar Size:.746 Joint Side: 2.630

2. Length: 3.695 Bar Size: .704 Joint Side: 2.471

3. Length: 3.961 Bar Size: .743 Joint Side: 2.30

Length-wise, and as per the FSM picture above, #2 seems OK for INNER side.

Not sure though about the Bar and Joint sizes.

Also Length-wise, and as per the FSM picture above, #3 seems OK for OUTER side.

Not sure though about the Bar and Joint sizes.

Which ones should I go for the INNERS and OUTERS?

Looks like none of them meet the OEM spec for the outers? I don't understand the "Bar size" and "Joint side" dimensions, but it isn't clear to me that they will actually fit. Need to match the proper diameters at each end and have the proper lips and stuff.

Maybe you could get some red RTV and coat them after you buy the usual ones? :)

You do not have the measurement you need in order to compare the ones you found... The bar side is the diameter of the shaft opening and the joint side is the diameter of the <joint> openeing.... in the fsm you obviously on have the lengths of the boot.... But one question comes to mind.... Why not go with the rockford when all this reasearch has already been done for you and on top of it you will end up with superior boots instead of crappy neoprene ?

go there : www.rockfordcv.com, get your part number for your truck from the online catalog, then call them and pay over the phone with your credit card and you'll be done... Unless, there is something I don't undertsnad in what you are trying to achieve... :scratchhead:

He is trying to achieve red CV boots for some reason I think.

Well actually that is true

I am trying to color-code my rubber and bushings to be all in Red.

So far almost every (visible) bushing on the front-end was replaced

with Red bushings from Energy Suspensions and I am simply trying to

match the CV Boots as well :)

I know the ones from Rockford.com might be superior but these are in ........ RED
