hardwaretoad
Do you have autolock front hubs ? Might be a case of not hitting the "interlock" switch on your dash (if a '94 has one like my '87~me not know) so you can engage 4x4... Or have the auto hubs been replaced with manual locking hubs ? Get out & lock them in, then try your Hi/Lo levers.... some ppl's kids... -thnkboutit-
88pathoffroad
The interlock button just allows you to start the Pathy without stepping on the clutch. It has nothing to do with shifting into 4WD. I think what happened is that you shifted the transfer case into neutral and didn't quite make it to 4-LO. From 2WD, the transfer case shifter lever should pull straight back one notch to 4-HI, then you need to push down on the shifter, pull it back another notch into neutral, then while still pushing down on it, pull ANOTHER notch back to put it into 4-LO. Does your 4-HI work OK? If so, there's no reason your 4-LO wouldn't be working. Your hubs may also be at fault, I can't tell without being there to see it myself. Airrun2002
Hold on there trigger. on my 95 the transfer case goes back one for 4hi forward one for neutral and all the way forward for 4lo you also have to push down to get it to go all the way. hardwaretoad
The interlock button just allows you to start the Pathy without stepping on the clutch. It has nothing to do with shifting into 4WD. I wondered what the heck that thing was for !!! I bought mine used (no owner's manual) and the autolocks had already been changed to Warn manuals. Duh, ya learn somethin' new every day... Guest Scuppers
I had a problem as well getting into 4WD low range. Thought the shift was severely unwell until I realised had to push the lever down first before it would go where I wanted it to go. Didn't read instructions -study- Just as well was by myself so didn't get too embarrased.
94extreme
also, remember that you're supposed to be in N when shifting into 4lo and i don't think you're supposed to be rolling either but could be wrong on that... where are you from aldo? Crazy Geologist
You should definitely come to a complete stop before trying to shift into 4-Low.

bundyboy
I might add here that BEFORE you climb a hill or enter a river/creek you should be in 4WD. It is a bit late closing the gate after the horse has bolted. Al
FindingPath3184
forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, I'm new to here and also new to the whole 4wd thing. What is the point of having neutral before hitting 4LO? What the propose that the neutral serves?
Greenbushy
Having neutral in a transfer case serves the purpose of being able to atatch a P.T.O. to run youre hay baler or what ever else ya want use a pto for namely a winch...
FindingPath3184
Oh i see. Thanks.
88pathoffroad
Well, that and to have a bit of safety cushion between 4HI and 4LO, cause you can shift into 4HI while moving and NOT 4LO...
