rocknforchrist
Last night my oil light kept flickering on the way home! On straight roads is would occasionally flicker and corners it would stay on. So my first guess is low on oil......wrong. Just emptied the oil into a measurable container and got out 3.5qrts. Any ideas?
adamzan
Make sure the wire to your oil sender is not loose. It is to the left of the oil filter and can get knocked loose sometimes.
rocknforchrist
Since Ive owned it never seen a wire connected to it? I thought it was just a ground wire anyways?
MY1PATH
than that wire is finding ground and making your light come on. When proplery hooked up that light should only come on if you have less than ~5 psi of oil (10 is your minimum) your owners manual will tell you to stop IMEDIATELY because engine damge with no oil pressure is iminent. sewebster
The wire essentially runs from your light bulb and completes the circuit, lighting the light, by providing a connection through the sender to ground (the block) when the pressure is low. sewebster
should be about 5qts (with filter) IIRC I don't think you'll get that much out just by draining though... and the light won't come on until it is way lower than that. If the wire is not connected then it will light up the bulb whenever it happens to brush against any ground point, such as the engine... the solution is to connect the wire The bonus is you get an oil light! adamzan
Actually it takes 3.4 liters which equals out to 3.59 quarts. Do not put 5quarts in!
rocknforchrist
Yeah I'm not gonna put 5qts in it! Well I put a ground wire on it from chassis to the plug and it fixed it. So I dunno what happened but I know since I've owned it it's not been connected so go figure.
bulletsforringo
Same thing happened to me recently, I'm not really mechanically inclined (currently learning) but between the information in this post and the FSM I will hopefully be able to resolve the issue. NPORA saves the day again.
