Could my A-Arm and all components be shifting to the front/rear? when im stopping, and almost stopped @ 5mph, i hear this growling coming from my passenger side front tire area... maybe bushings of some sort? idt its the wheel bearings since it would do it all the time if it was, wouldn't it? Help, I'm stumped.... :wacko:

yes it can, for many reasons and all of wich can be common on neglected patfinders. here are a few but don't rule other things out like loose calipers or other parts of the vehicle

  • UCA bolts, these buggers cause lots of problems when sripped or loose. Alignment shims fall out, aligment wont say the same when driving they tend to clunk or sometimes rattle under breaking and hard accelerating
  • Compression rod bushings, if these are worn out your lower control arm move arround constantly chaging your castor angle.
  • Compression rod cups, the cups that seat the bushings can rust out and spit or disappear all together. when this happens the strut rod can walk arround in its hole and will do so more as it wears out the hole.
  • LCA and UCA bushings, less common but still possible. Each control arm sould be able to rotate without and lateral or hoizantal play. LCA bushings require removing the T-bars and entire lower control arm. UCA bushings are a bit easier.

i dont really think the arm is shifting since it would rub all the time youd think but idk what else it could be.

and when we did the brakes we had to get new caliper slides for that side...

ill have to jack up that side tomorrow and check for looseness.

You got him all confused know GG...Growlin',clunking? Whats the diffrence.

 

Could it be possible that one or your hubs or cv is looked in? If its a wheel bearing,its easy to check.Jack that side of the truck up and pushed and pull the tire toward the engine.Its shouldnt move,if it moves then a bearing is gong.

A growling noise is usually a wheel bearing, or other rotating part noise. A shifting would give you a clumking sound or bump feel.

but wouldnt it make the sound all the time if it was a wheel bearing??? other option im thinking is the caliper maybe.
