How do the factory shocks work? What actually happens when you switch from touring to sport?

sport is supposed to increase the "stiffness"

There is a magnetic fluid in the shocks and when you switch it to "Sport" the viscosity of the fluid is increased making the shock stiffer like Nige said.

most wd21s by now that have them are probably worn out unless they were replaced. So you might not be able to tell a difference anymore.

Yeah they get stiffer in sport. My front ones had been replaced but my back ones still work and there is still a noticable difference.

I have them in the 94 I bought, didn't think they worked cause the light in the switch was bad, but when I tried each setting and pushed down in the cargo area with the hatch open you can definitely see a difference, on sport you can't push the truck down at all !! on comfort (some say touring) you can push the body down, also noticeable if you push near the roof side to side
