alternator belt stretching?

I have a gates alternator belt (9370) and I've noticed that the belt has been stretching over time and I have to tension it since it squeals and now I'm almost out of bolt.

I am wondering if anyone has been having this problem as well?

Not normally, I have in the past but the norm is not like that at all for me.

I have used Goodyear, NAPA, whatever Schucks sells and ? Who knows what other brands shrug.gif

The one on it now I think is a Goodyear Gatorback and it has been running as is since I put it on... can't remember when that was exactly, but by looks, it's about time to replace it.

What's strange is my AC and power steering belt are the brand as my alternator and are not having the same problem. the Alternator belt squeals when I put a load on the engine. Maybe I'll just try another brand of belt.

the alty runs the smallest pulley (asider from the a/c tensioner that has no load) so it has less contact with the belt for a given degree of wrap arrond than a larger pulley. this leads to it being more prone to squeaks.... My 2" pulley does it every start up.

The old belts on the PTO of my flatbed were stretching to the point I ran out of adjustment, they were old though and about due to be replaced to begin with.

Replaced the alternator belt finally with one from Autozone. My other two belts were Autozone belts as well. The alternator spins freely with no problems.

I found out after installing my new belt that there was a groove cut into the old belt by the upper timing belt cover. I was wondering if anyone had this problem. Mine seems to be in awkward angle.
