but I would say using the ARP head stud kit for the z31 300zx is a good Idea.

according to the FSM, no. but it's good insurance, if you are rebuilding.

I never replaced them and never had any issues...some believe they're torque to yield but I haven't read that anywhere...

I'd replace them. Spend the extra $40-60 for new head bolts, and not have to worry if something is might go wrong. Replace them so you'll have better peace of mind.
