I just got the tape deck working in my '95, now the cd player has gone kaput. It still accepts a disc, but it constantly searches for a place to start reading it, until it finally gets fed up and spits it back out. The display remains blank the whole time it's doing this. I shot some compressed air in there to get all the dust out and topped that off with one of those cleaning disc type thingies which the player promptly spit out too. I really want to keep this head unit as I have ALOT of music on both tapes and CD's. I've got the stock unit which has the radio/tape on top and the CD player on the bottom. Anyone have any ideas?

A stick of dynamite? :D If there is an issue with it above and beyond cleaning, I doubt its going to be servicable, or at least worth the cost to have it worked on. So if nothing else, my bet would be ebay, junkyard, or a new stereo. There are double-din decks available to play both cassettes and cd's, however they're a bit spendy. You could also go the route of getting a cassette player and an external cd changer. :shrug:

hmmm it only began doing this a couple of days ago... maybe i'll put it all back together and just wait and see what happens. Those decks are pretty rare in the scrapyards, as i've only been able to find 2 pathys within an hour's drive from home.. thanks for the help guys

yeah, i had to unplug the whole thing to get my old cassette deck out. I swapped it with the one out of my older brother's truck but the bastard never got the stock cd player with his. Just a little tray to put your smokes under the radio

My pathy's original CD player does that clicking/searching/spitting out thing

every so often too. It sucks but I've not had the time to look into it.

It almost acts as if the CD is not getting seated right in the player or something;

or the loading mechanism is malfunctioning. Who knows...

Skrill, believe it or not, I have had that problem with a cd deck of mine. I cleaned all power and ground connections, and it wasn't as bad but still did it. 1 month later, the old (6 year, my how time flys) battery catastrophically failed (drove to work fine, battery dead and gone showing 6V 4 hours later). It seems the battery getting ready to fail was drawing/fluctuating the power of the system (this was explained to me) and it sort of makes sense. I replaced the battery, and the cd deck worked fine. I sold the truck, but I pulled the stereo and put it into another car. The point is, check the power connections to the stereo, and then the battery/charging system in the truck. It seems like the cd players are VERY sensitive to this sort of thing. Hope it helps.... I know that was my problem.

yeah bernard, i've had the same interstate battery since i picked up the truck about 4 years ago. When it's idling, the interior lights will sometimes flicker or not stay at a certain brightess. I should see how much juice the battery is pushing. The water levels are good in it, but I haven't tested the flow.
