Why are you buying a new MAF? Try the O2 sensor first, and then clear your codes. If that fixes it, no MAF needed.

No no not buying a new one. Taking one off the other pathfinder. Brandon says to try it anyways.

Ahh....if you're not purchasing, then it makes sense. :aok: Be sure to try the truck after only changing the O2 Sensor BEFORE you change the MAF as well, so that you know what fixed the issue.

Is the same issue you mentioned on CNTC? I think there I mentioned that if it is not doing it while cold, then it could be the O2 since it is bypassed during open loop mode while warming up. What is the exact code you got?

I am curious to see the result here.

Yeah it is. The code I got was code 33 Heated oxygen sensor.

Well, you have a code for the 02 sensor, yet you're changing other parts. I believe you're creating your own frustration.

That's what the hell, Adam. I swear you like to make things far more difficult than they need to be...

So why didn't you change out the O2 sensor when it threw the code instead of waiting forever for it to get extremely bad? :scratchhead:

wouldn't the truck run different if you disconnected the O2 sensor granted it was good in the first place to test it?

I am just throwing a few things to help. Plug leads or ignition coil? It does sound like a missing spark problem, as it seems to happen under acceleration. Like when you wash the engine and get some moisture under the dist cap. You have eliminated the Cap and rotor button. I guess you can see the $$ starting to mount up, but will be a well tuned up car once fixed.

Keep us updated on your progress.

It is fixed now. I replaced the o2 sensor, spark plugs, spark plug wires and put 2 bottles of injector cleaner in the gas tank. Seems to be running well. I've driven about 400kms and its driving alright but still crappy gas mileage, something I usually never complain about but i got like 420km to just a hair over the E bar. No light yet though.

I don't claim to know what Nick was going to say, but my guess is that it is generally considered less than ideal to drive until the fuel light is on.

There has been at least 1 specific thread on the fuel light, if all trucks have them, why wait so long to fill up, etc. I personally have never seen a low fuel light on my pathy and don't plan to.

  • 1 year later...

Ok well whatever was causing this has failed completely...It is not the tranny. On thursday night I was driving home from brandons house and about 1km from my place it started missing real bad and had no guts. I bought a new cap and rotor and spark plugs and replaced them. It drove a lot better but as soon as it warmed up enough it started again. It is not as bad with the new plugs though.

I thought the timing belt had slipped but then again wouldn't it run bad all the time if that was the case? I find if I am VERY easy on the throttle it won't do it. And somewhere over 3k it will go away sometimes. If you put any load on the motor it will do this. I checked the codes and got 55 no malfunction...

I checked the coolant sensor and the maf and they are both within the specs in the FSM when the truck is warmed. My plugs were white which apparently means running lean.

I know I shouldn't have done this but if you floor it, it will pickup really nice after 3k and go all the way to 6k, and it doesn't seem to hesitate while doing it.

I'm going through the exact same problem right now........I've changed EVERYTHING including the O2 sensor, cleaned the MAF new plugs, wires, cap, & rotor, air and fuel filter. I've checked all the plugs (no cracks) they seem to be burning just fine. Ran the codes and all I'm getting is a code 55. It acts up intermittently all the time. Sometimes it runs great the whole drive to work, then I leave and it sputters, misfires and acts up as soon as I try to accelerate.

Did you find the route of the problem? I'd love to know!! Thanx mate.
