beastpath
So I have found a junkyard transmission from a 1990 Pathfinder with which I am going to do the manual swap over. Before I get it though. Is there any way I can test that it still functions properly? Or is it pretty much hit and miss, or disassemble to find out? Thanks
Precise1
For a minute I thought this was a thread about Nissyota... Make sure input and output shafts spin, the seals aren't leaking everywhere and maybe drain the oil to see if any bearings or chunks come out... Simon
That's about all you can do as far as I know.
beastpath
yeah, i figured i couldnt do much. Koveman was just at the same yard pulling the 3rd member from this same truck and he said it seemed to shift fine too.
nunya
No time liek the present if you got the cash to make sure it's a new clutch/flywheel/TOB... Remember to make sure when you pull the auto flywheel that there is a spacer behind it you have to remove or the manuel flywheel will sit too far away from the starter. (At least the ka motors have that issue, learned the hard way)
beastpath
yeah, ill be getting a new clutch - probably the OEM one as its a decent price and I have read it is better than the expensive centerforce ones. probably going to just resurface the flywheel though. beastpath
oh, and I can use my original drive shafts right?
Precise1
Yes, as far as I know. I plan to swap my manual and auto drive shafts (new uni's in the manual) so if I'm wrong, we are in the same (but opposite) boat... B
beastpath
should I replace my U joints? or is that not really nescessary?
Precise1
It is only 4 bolts to remove the driveshaft and the U joints can be a PITA so wait until they fail befoe replacing them, is my recommendation. DO lube them though... B
