Junkyard tranny

So I have found a junkyard transmission from a 1990 Pathfinder with which I am going to do the manual swap over.

Before I get it though. Is there any way I can test that it still functions properly? Or is it pretty much hit and miss, or disassemble to find out?

Thanks

For a minute I thought this was a thread about Nissyota...

Make sure input and output shafts spin, the seals aren't leaking everywhere and maybe drain the oil to see if any bearings or chunks come out...

No time liek the present if you got the cash to make sure it's a new clutch/flywheel/TOB... Remember to make sure when you pull the auto flywheel that there is a spacer behind it you have to remove or the manuel flywheel will sit too far away from the starter. (At least the ka motors have that issue, learned the hard way)
