so I found a pathifinder at the local junkyard with what appears to be pacemaker headers on it. the are disconected and loose in the engine compartment. to get them out I would have to saw apart the crossover pipe.

 

how realistic is it to take these puppies out and have the local muffler shop install them in my ride? Am I asking for trouble? my gut says probably.

Like OSR said, but I bet it would be cheaper than buying new and a cleanly cut exhaust pipe can be welded no problem.

Paying for the install and possible (broken) stud replacement is what would cost in this scenario...

yep, definitely have at least one broken stud. what's a ball park figure for this job?

If you decide to cut the headers and have them welded back together you might consider having your exhust shop put a two-bolt flange in the middle. I did that before I installed my last set of Pacesetters and it made installation much easier.
