Hi Pitch / Turbo Like Whine

Hi Everybody,

 

I've got a 95XE V6, 160K on the motor.

 

I recently changed my timing belt, tensioner, front oil seals, waterpump and drive belts, all parts are Nissan/OE. I tensioned the belt with the 90 degree/twist method. When I start the truck when the engine is cold I get a high pitch whine that sounds like a turbo. It slowly fades away after about 5 minutes.

 

I'm going back in to check the belt tension, can anyone think of anything else I should be looking at while I'm in there? TIA

Try changing the tranny fluid and filter,mine did the same thing but stopped when I changed it.

My old Suburban used to make a whining/turbo noise as well when it was cold and first started in the morning. Changing the fluid made the noise go away.

Check the alternator, maybe the belt is too tight.

The same exact thing happened to me. The timing belt is too tight. If you leave it that way it can snap the end off one of the cams.

I'll be changing my trans fluid / filter, checking the tension on the drive belts and loosening the T-belt a little, real soon.

its the fan clutch. once the ride gets up past normal temp the whine starts.

the fan clutch does not make a high pitched whine

Maybe you don't have a turbo you don't know about.
