msavides Posted January 12, 2009 Share Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) Well I just fabbed up my sliders and well they are quite heavy. The construction consists of 2 6 foot sections of 2x2 square stock at 3/16th Inch thick for each side. I still have to install them and paint them. I will post pics of the completed sliders pre install and post install later this week. The complete weight of just one slider is about 65 lbs. Puts me at about 130 pounds total weight. I can't tell by the pictures but I personally wouldn't go thinner then 1/4". every piece on metal in this design is 3/16 thick. the metal for the mounting plates is the same height as the frame and will be welded to the top and the bottom edges of the frame. I will be applying weld thru primer to the frame and the plates prior to welding to keep it from rusting in between them. I think it will be plenty strong since I am spreading the load across a large area of the frame It is pretty much over engineered already. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But as far as the mounting plates go, i'm more concerned about the short legs ripping off the mounting plates. I was only asking because the mounting plates looked quite thin in the pictures. It should be good with the 3/16" metal and hopefully you never slam the entire weight of the truck on one side. If they fail. I will go back to the redesign stage. My first indication that the plates my have been too thin was that they warped a little bit when I welded the cross pieces to them. Although I think the rosette welds in the 2 holes in each plate should help keep the plates from bending under stress. I did absolutely nothing on my vacation. (BTW I thought we were going wheeling in December) That's ok I had a ton of crap to get done and did nothing, Beside my back was killing me on my vacation so I probably would not have gone anyways. But Now I got Rock rails I want to go wheeling. I took some time off on working on my truck, now I am back to working on it again. I should be frequenting the board more now.
