99BoomFinder
I have herd about people doing a conversion from a 2wd to a 4wd. My pathy has 80,000 miles on it, and I was wondering what is involved to make this work. Has anyone done this? If so, how much? Or would it be better to sell the pathy and try to get one that is 4wd? May be a dumb question, but I figured it would be worth a shot.
99BoomFinder
Oh yeah.....It is a 99 (not a 99.5).
88pathoffroad
It'd take quite a bit of doing to convert a R50 2WD to a 4WD. Perhaps some other people will chime in with ideas or specifics, but I'd say it'd be more worth your time to buy a 4WD.
laxman0324
I would say costs involved just to get the parts would be a lot, installation itself probably not that difficult, just tedious and lots and lots of steps...Your gonna need a tcase, front diff, front and rear axle, CV axles, hubs, shifter for 4wd through the floor would need to be installed, etc... csutke
front and rear axle he should already have a rear axle but im guessing that it would be to much of a pita as we have a unibody and i dont know if the 2WD models are made different but i think that you would to buy the previous list as well as crossmembers and such
laxman0324
but the one he has doesnt have a transfer case between it and the transmission right? I was just thinking logically, havent investigated that.
sammyb33
i even think the steering knuckles are different for the 2wd. yes, go buy a 4wd truck, it is quite and undertaking to convert yours to 4wd.
NismoSkyZ
It would be a much, much, much better idea to sell your 2wd and buy a 4wd.

BowTied
Do 2WDs have the same front suspension? Do the 2wd frames have torsion bar mounts? Regardless, i agree, buy a 4x4 vehcile. It can be done, but simply not practical.
Pezzy
Do 2WDs have the same front suspension? Do the 2wd frames have torsion bar mounts? R50's don't have torsion bars. Struts & Coils ahoy!
