2 Pronged Antenna Cable To Aftermarket Deck

Well I just bought a 98 pathfinder after having a leased vehicle for the past couple of years. Before that I always would put atleast some form of system in my vehicles, but for what ever reason I left the leased vehicle alone. Well now that I have the pathy I've been sorting through my old stuff and decided to put one of my decks back in. So far it hasn't gone good, usually I just hard wire it right in, but I saw a wiring harness so I wanted to see if it was much easier. Atleast two of the contact points are miswired and I think I might have to screw the harness and just start stripping wires due to some speaker connection isses, but besides that the issue I have come to is that the antenna cable is two pronged while my deck has a single input. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on why there is a seconded prong. Tomorrow or wednesday I plan to go to radio shack and just buy the end I need and convert it over. But figured I'd just ask here first to see what the benefit of the second prong was. I must admit that the stock unit had great range with the antenna, and I wouldn't want to hinder its performance.

dont know why there is two prongs but you can go to walmart and get an adapter the will make it work.

lol.. i just came accross tha in my truck and was kind of wondering myself. i do have a disc changer wired in too and that seems to be the way the signal comes and is combined with the outside antenna. the thing is that there is an adapter on my antenna cable that goes from one prong to two, iirc, before joing the changer and then there are couple of other dapters in those lines.. it's kind of a mess but at least it's not a bunch of tiny speaker wires.... hmm..

 

 

walmard you say? i still may have to get another one to go back to one prong if i want to keep the changer. lol

 

 

black jagger.. as the truck age the stock amps tend to go and most choose to bypass them.. i may have to also.. i still need to do a little bit of testing before i junk my stock receiver with tape. can't beat the tape on jarring terrain..

Crutchfield sells the Nissan diversity antenna adapter plugs.

The 2 prong plug is for the diversity antenna, as Dean mentioned. One wire to the antenna in the windshield, 1 to the normal antenna.

ahhh yes, I think I had to pick up an adapter at Future Shop (Best Buy) when I installed my stereo.
