sfBAYarea
big shoe, what size front shocks are you running? 3" over? the gold tubler is so sweet looking on those uca's thanks
aries247
you can use stock length front shocks.
Simon
Yep...search around. There's almost nothing you can do to the IFS (independant front suspension) to increase travel. New UCA's do not increase travel. The only thing that will is removing the bumpstops, though, it's not recommended as you'll go through CV's any time you wheel. Stock length shocks are fine, as with a lift, they'll just sit at a further extended position within the stock range of travel.
sfBAYarea
so 3" uca's and stock shocks? or one over for middle of the road? thanks
Slick
SF/bay area huh? I am from "the other side of the hill" (now live in the central valley).... anyhoo, yes, stock shocks are fine. there is very little flex in the IFS as simon explained. GrimGreg
Here's what they mean; when you "lift" the front suspension all you are doing is raising the position of the suspension in it's travel area. Nothng changes to it's range of movement from stock, just where is sits in that range normally. Same movement range/lenght, same size shock for stock or lifted. sfBAYarea
that makes sence. the arm is not moving any further because of the bump stops and the lift is just making the truck sit highter with the same suspension range.. but if the shock is bit longer wont the shocks internal piston be more in the middle of the shocks range instead of being on the top on the shock almost on the bump stop? i just want the shock to have equal dampining both sides of the internal valve..? thanks again.. 88pathoffroad
It won't matter. They will still work exactly the same. I've tried longer fronts, there's no difference.
GrimGreg
If anything you might damage a longer shock in the front by over compressing it. I blew a stock one before I replaced a missing lower bump on mine.
