NICE! A good modification. I got the bored part down so all I need now is the welder and training on how to use it. Hmm, I might be too dangerous with a welder and a little knowledge.

Are the lower control arms notoriously weak?

Well, if you try to support the weight of the truck on a boulder with one of them, then yes, they are weak. Otherwise, they're sufficiently strong.
