Modern Wheels

I was considering a wheel swap on my pathy from my 5 spoke modern wheels to some black steelies. But now I'm kinda parting from that idea because I noticed a definite weight difference between my modern wheels and the stock spare (which has a 31x10.50 firestone tire on it). I would like to know what material my modern wheels are made out of because there is about a 10lb difference between my spare wheel and the modern wheels. I assume they are made out of aluminum but not entirely sure. Is this company still around? I have googled the name and it turned up no positive results as far a manufacturer. Thanks for any help.

I would imagine they are aluminum... I had a set of them on my Yota for a short just after I got it.. until I found some centerlines, with the offset I wanted.

 

Modern used to make afiak only Aluminum wheels. Less Schwab used to carry them, but they do not list that brand anymore.

Pics? The difference between aluminum vs. steel wheels is usually pretty obvious, generally steel being thinner and heavier than aluminum of similar size, of course..

Good point, I seem to remember them mainly as a Les Schwab (evil empire) brand.

Did they cost less than $200 apiece?
