Coil spring removal

Just wondering if you can remove/replace the rear springs without dropping the entire rear-end. I guess I'm trying to ask if you can use a spring compressor to take the springs out. Also, if the springs are sagging in the rear and you replace them with less worn stock springs (or say jgc springs) would you have to re-align the front end? Thanks

I thought it was fairly easy. You should realign if you crank your t-bars but I don't think the ride height of the rear will effect your front alignment significantly enough to worry about if at all.

You don't need a spring compressor, especially if you're just replacing stock springs. If you don't have enough room, just pull the e brake bolts and the 2 for the little guides for the brake lines.

I suppose you must take all the weight off the rear (suspend the rearend) before taking the coils out right. Also where is a good place to jack it up in back considering you can't use the axle.

Jack it up from the diff, then throw some jack stands under the frame rails, and lower the jack back down. That'll most likely get you enough room to get the stock coils out.

u will have to remove the tires as well....i actually set the drums all the way on the ground and it was pretty tight...and i had to go buy a longer travel jack b/c my 2 ton jacks were not tall enough to get the frame up high enough to get the 3" spring lift in...

responded fondo...i forgot to mention that i dont have the rubber boot that sits in the bottom the 87's were non existing so i swiped the 1's off of the 95...also make sure u get the alignment right on the last coil in the bottom footing...i didnt know about this at 1st and had to go back and do it...luckly i had compressors so it wasnt that hard

here's mini me during her JGC coil install. as simon said, jack er up and put stands under the frame. i didn't take the tires off for my install. old coils popped right out. i think someone said somewhere for some reason to do the passenger side first...... i think it's got something to do with which side will sag more.... or something... bleh. it was an easy install and i got almost 3 3/4" out of it. B)

*keeping the tires on i found helped to add weight to the ends of the axle to help it sag*
