Trainman
can i get anyone's opinion on the relative importance of each different (front, middle, rear, differential) skid plate, such as those from AC Parts? thanks How do you drive? Hit anything yet? With what part of the truck? I only have the ones that cover from the front to the trannie, got mine from Black Panther. stokejob
i go off-road whenever I can... maybe 5 times a year. my stock LE has taken on some pretty rough terrain and i've been very surprised at its performance. last time out i landed on a rock near the middle cross support beam. how do the ac plates compare to the black panthers? bottom line: i'm hoping that skid plates will save my car and my wallet in the long run. Pezzy
I cant say I know anything about the AC Skids, I only know the BP's... here's another read for you: http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=10487&st=
vengeful
ACs skids are horrible. Go with the BlackPanthers. I've had both...I still have the BPs.
stokejob
thanks for the input guys. it sounds like the BPs are a sure thing
stokejob
so as far as protecting the most vulnerable spots under my pathy, front and middle skid plates are the first i should buy with my limited cash?
GrimGreg
Yes, keeping the tranny and oil pans safe should be first priority. The stock "splash guard" at the front, though not really tough will be fine till you can upgrade.
Precise1
it sounds like the BPs are a sure thing Yes. GG has a good point about the front one. Unless you go rock bashing, it can wait if the wallet needs refilling, but should be upgraded to match the rest... Do the undercarrage first. Ask to see if they need to be interlinked front to rear for mounting... B
Pezzy
I'd have to somewhat disagree with that -- you guys have a metal 'splash guard' where as the R50's have a really cheesy plastic one, that really do no protection (as per Vengeful's posts in the link mentioned above)... it didnt do anything for me when I hit the wrong rock and caused myself a nice $1200++ bill in repairs. Precise1
Hmm, good point... I didn't realize it was one of those 50ish things. Plastic=bad unless it's along the lines of the PE skid plate I made. B
glenn
I have BP skids . tHEY ARE WELL MADE AND VERY HEAVY DUTY. i DECIDED to get them after smashing my tranny pan in Death Valley - almost didn't make it out. I got all 3, the full set, but only used the two in the mid section for the tranny and transfer case skids. I have 1990 SE and the factory front skid fits better, w/ more ground clearance, and is slightly larger so it protects more then the BPs. It is true the metal is not as thick as BP, but it has taken many hits w /only a few dents. Just my $0.02. -- glenn

I agree with Pezzy. I smashed my plastic splash shield thing crashing through some ice this spring. Not very durable at all.
stokejob
yeah it looks like my factory splash guard would protect against water... but nothing else. luckily, i think i can afford both the frond and mid skid plates for now. hopefully they come in before my trip i have planned for next month. thanks for the discussion guys.
