mws
I ordered the L&P stage 3 steering kit and when I went to install it, I finally looked at the idler arm in the '88 and noticed it was not the stock configuration. A little research indicates it is a Moog aftermarket arm. Instead of the mount having a pin hang extending throught the idler arm, http://www.rockauto.com/ref/BeckArnley/Det...tml?1014044.jpg the Moog has a TRE type stud in the end of the idler arm extending up into a cast mount: http://www.rockauto.com/ref/Moog/Detail.ht...g&K9500_ANG.jpg Anybody have any experience with this design? My garage floor analysis indicated it should be quite a bit more durable, but can anyone confirm or correct? Obviously, I could not use the L&P double shear idler arm and brace on this design so I left the Moog. It feels rock solid and I plan to leave it unless someone has history indicating it is a weak design and I should retrofit a stock mount. I am only running 31x10.5's, but play in the desert and want max durability and reliability. Edited August 23, 2006 by mws
jj big shoe
My Moog IA lasted exactly one off road excursion before it went kaputski. I also roached the stock CL the same day so that might have put additional stress on it. My L&P CL and IA brace set up seems pretty solid. I'd go with the stock design since the Moog one doesn't allow for a brace.
88pathoffroad
Mine lasted one trip as well. After removal, it spun around like a New Year's razzer on a stick. The MOOG one is overpriced and underreinforced.

Mookie
I bought a Moog. It bent on the gravel road on the way to the trail when I pulled somone out of the ditch and my front end slid sideways. :o The stock ones are better.
mws
Thanks for all the input! I have the L&P double shear idler and the brace that came with the stage 3 kit. Based on these experiences, they WILL be going in. What I don't have is the stock idler arm frame bracket. Anyone have one laying around? And no, Aaron, I don't need any of your "custom" angled jobs!
