  1. With my 95, the main part bolts under the bumper (where the tow-hook was before you remove it) and then it also bolts in where your fog-lights are. I needed different trim pieces to allow for the mount points and move my fogs to the guard.

You can see the part I have the bungee cord hooked to.

  2. I had a leak in my head gasket that was causing overheating. There was no coolant in my oil and no oil in my coolant but the dealership had some sort of device that would detect something in either the oil or coolant that indicated that there was a leak. I guess I should have paid better attention.

  3. if you don't have a stethoscope, there are a couple of other options. You can use a length of tubing, sticking one end in/against your ear and 'probing' the other end around the engine/exhaust to 'hear' the leak or source of the noise. Second, if you think it may be internal, take a length of brazing rod (or any other fairly thin rigid rod) and hold the end against the bottom of an empty veggie or soup can (think of the old string & cup phone systems as kids). Touch the free end of the rod at various places on the head, exhaust, etc and you should be able to isolate where the sound is coming from.

  4. I removed the DVD unit from under the passenger seat. It was held in with drywall screws. There was a single connector which led to the power socket on the back of the unit. I did not see any other wiring that would tell me how it displayed on the ceiling unit. Anyone with an 05 SE with the SE premium package (Bose stereo, DVD player, etc) can you please tell me more info about where your DVD is located and how it is connected? Pictures would also be helpful

My answers so far (no thanks to the forum folks  )

    1. transponder key and the idiots at the dealership want $45 per key and $120 to program it. Guess I'm looking for other options

    2. flipping up the seat bottom does not move the frame that is in the way but, using the lever at the top of the seat, flips the back forward and releases the base to flip up forward, thus revealing access to a dual compartment cubby

    3. I found the DVD player under the passenger seat. No idea if it works and the thing is only held in on one edge but at least it's there.

    4. no answers yet. guess I need to tear into the dash

    5. still sounds like a scooter. Have not dug into it.

    now.... for new stuff....

Anyone have an R51 they are parting out? There are a lot of little things that I will need to fix/replace like rear AC vent fins, a worn knob, n o latch on the center console, etc.

Transponder keys are under $10 on amazon. Beware of the seller since some have been reported to have no transponders in them. I bought mine from "KeylessOption" (2 remotes and 2 transponder keys for $16.95) and opened them upon arrival to see that they indeed do have the chip inside. I go to get them cut and programmed today. My local TrueValue hardware will cut my blanks and program them for $10 each. Much better to pay $37 for 2 keys and 2 fobs than to go to a dealer for nearly $400.

Made a junkyard run on Friday and found 2 R51's. The first was a 2005 with a tan interior like mine. Only problem was that the vehicle had been involved fully in a fire so everything was charred and melted. No parts from that one. The second was a 2006 that was pretty picked over but I was able to grab a horn and, since the dash was gone, was able to get into the defrost vent door system and figure out what the sound in mine most likely is. I was able to grab an actuator and the geared disc that it interfaces with so I'll have them on hand when mine finally dies. Toss in a handful of parts for my 95 (washer motors, door latch mechanisms, a couple switches, console hinge, etc) and a couple horns from other vehicles and I rolled out with only spending $10 ($2 entrance fee and $8 in parts).

  6. Just bought a 2005 SE+ pathy and will have a few questions so I figure I'd start a thread.

    1. do the R51's use a transponder key or can I get a generic one cut at the local hardware store like my 95?

    2. Under the second row passenger seat, there seems to be a small hatch/cubby that won't open because the frame of the seat is in the way. WTF is that for and how do you get into it?

    3. The pathy has a roof video screen (entertainment system) but I do not see the DVD player in the console like I thought it would be. This one has the SE premium package with the Bose system in it and there is a button on the unit that leads me to believe that the DVD to be viewed actually gets loaded into the 6-cd changer. Is this correct?

    4. When I turn on (or off) defrost, I hear what sounds like a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle (for you old-timers). The airflow does change to and from the defrost so I know the diverter is working. I'm guessing there is something with the diverter or motor that is hitting or wearing out. Anyone have experience with this?

    5. When I lock the truck, I get a single wimpy beep. I hit the horn and get the same wimpy little beep. I can't imagine that a big pathy would sound like a motorcycle horn so maybe there are multiple horns and only 1 is actually working. Should this sound more like a truck and I need to track down some wiring or do all R51's sound like a putt-putt scooter?

more to come as I start digging around
