  1. So the new(to me) pathy is periodically throwing a P0430 code which indicates an inefficiency in the catalyst system bank 2. I have read that a bad O2 sensor can cause this but I would expect an O2 sensor code if that were the case. I'd rather check this first before replacing the front DS cat. So here's my diagnostic logic..

I should be able to remove the O2 sensor from behind the DS cat and swap it to the other side (PS). Not sure how the wiring is but I would think there is a plug or something that I can disconnect that will allow me to swap the sensors but leave the wiring intact (as if I were replacing the O2 sensors). I'll reset the codes and let the wife drive it for another few weeks to see if a code returns.

one of the following should tell me my next step(s):

    1. P0430 returns - must be a bad CAT or bad O2 sensor harness wire since it remained on bank 2. visually/electrically check wire and probably replace cat.

    2. P04xx throws indicating inefficiency on Bank 1. This would say my O2 sensor is bad

    3. No codes - must have been a bad connection or something that got resolved when I swapped the sensors.

    Sound like reasonable logic?

  2. Decided it's finally time to let her go. Bought a 2005 Pathy and a small 4-door sedan in the past few weeks and need some relief on my car insurance bill. The 95 is the oldest of all my vehicles and will probably need a couple hundred dollars of work before inspection in October. I'm not sure I want to drag it along through another year. Now to decide whether to sell it whole, in parts or simply scrap it at the local yard.

  3. lol. guess I should have read the original post. Missed the 'it died' part.

I have not heard of an ECU burning up but I suppose it's possible. If you pull the seat and ECU cover, shove your nose there and sniff. If it fried, it will have a definite burnt smell and maybe even some melt indication on the cover or connectors.

if this is the case, get the numbers off the ECU and post. I might still have a spare that I pulled form a junkyard. Don't think they are completely interchangeable so matching a model or part number would be best. (23710-85P##)

  4. what kind is that?? I had one on my 95, got rid of it because I thought it was a no brand..... Maybe that wasn't the best decision

Factory OEM bought from the dealership when I bought the pathy. Additional parts needed were the 2 inserts for where the fog-lights are stock, allowing the brush-bar to mount there and put the fogs on the bar. I always thought the ones with the headlight wrap-arounds were after-market
