  1. I purchased a hd re4r01a transmission for a 2003 Pathfinder.  I found out that the bellhousing is different and can be swapped.  If you look at roughly minute 9 of this video, you will see what happened to me when I tried to change bellhousing.  This guy did exactly what i did.  Bellhousing wanted to come off with pump on new transmission and the old one broke free without pulling out pump.  Bellhousing is also RTVed to the pump in addition to the bolts.    You must wedge something to split it off.  The old transmission split off because the sealant had heated up and cooled off thousands of times to become brittle. On the new transmission the adhesive was much more effective and was a bear to separate.  I broke the input speed sensor too.  It was the one sensor that was not on the orignial 1994 transmission.  Now I think I need to tear it apart and see if any pieces fell into the case.  But do I need to replace the sensor.  They are $180 and I think are only needed for OBD2 vehicles to show any variation between the input and output shaft speeds to identify slip.  Thoughts?  Also, Not sure if the new Torque converter will bolt up to my flexplate or if I need one from VG33er xterra???

You need a 96+ tc and matching flex plate for it to work.

  2. I know of only one person that has done it and Mr. Reverse may recall of it. For it to work, they utilized the Trailmaster lift it to drop the front and aftermarket control arms to clear the coilover and custom towers.

  3. Many years ago, I broke a rear swaybar endlink while I was in Moab. Couldn't see anything wrong because while the truck was sitting still, the ball end would go back into its socket. After getting pulled over and having the nice officer explain to me that when going around corners, it is not legal to have 2 tires up in the air, I decided I had to find the problem. when I grabbed the link and pulled, it popped apart and I found the problem that time. New link and I didn't have the sway anymore. I have also had to replace the rear link bushings for wear causing odd handling issues. Have to do it again actually. My right rear shock dumped all its oil about the time I wound up parking my Pathy for a while and I have noticed it has become a bit squirrely due to that. I will also admit that my truck is in rough shape since she has been neglected for the last 4 years and I am just getting back into working on it. 3" body lift and 4" suspension lift in the rear with soft springs have made things really noticeable.
Hope all is well with you bud!

  4. I used 3m marine grade adheasive and filled in where it shrunk. once dried I trimmed it to match the molding where it shrunk with a razer blade. looks good and cant really tell
I used gasket sealant to fill in the gaps. Now the gap is larger lol. Ebay has the window moulding for hardbodies which work

  5. I highly advise you get OE Parts unless you want to settle for cheap thin chinese body replacement parts. Go to a junkyard and cut out what you need. I bought a cordless grinder.

I had to go through what you are going through. Im using a cheap chinese core support and it is flimsy. The only thing keeping it from flexing further is the original middle support.

Salvage as much as you can from thr original parts.0bd80e162ba86c7b21de4e2b8ff55246.jpg

  6. I can't seem to find a good answer on this.  The recommended fluid is Nissan Matic D, I think.  What alternatives are there?  Anyone with experience?  I talked with a mechanic today and he said anything other than Matic D might harm the seals, another mechanic said he uses an alternate fluid with no issue.
Im using valvoline import truck stuff.

  7. It would make sense to do a similar drop down bracket to match your front suspension. You could even do a 4 link or 3 link too given that that height due to the amount of lift required.

  8. In the past 2 months, 3 different times I've had my alternator not work for the first few minutes after starting the car and driving off. I could tell because the battery, and brake light was on, I have a ScanGauge that stayed off (it should turn on automatically), and if I turned it on it showed 11.4 volts. So far this has only happened on the first start of the day, with it fairly cold ~35 degrees.

But each time after driving for about 2-3 minutes, before I could get back home, the alternator started working again (the lights went off and the voltage was normal at 14.3 volts.)

I'm about to go through the service manual, but has anyone had something like this, or have thoughts on what it could be?

The alternator is original, but last year it quit working. I took it to a rebuild shop who replaced the brushes, cleaned it up, tested it, and said it was good. He said it is really rare for a voltage regulator to go, which I was surprised about. The alternator plug is a little tight. I've worried that some day the wires may pull out a little. But if that happens, I think I'd see the alternator be totally intermittent or not work at all.

    Thanks.
Sounds like a failing voltage regulator. He should have replaced it. It's super inexpensive.

I'd love to know the end result.  I've always seen them on RockAuto, and I'm not particularly fond of the shift patterns on my 04 (mainly 3<-->4 down/upshifts), though I'm not sure what the kit does to improve it, or if it's all sensor/computer driven.  Are the kits intended to be a performance aid, or a rebuild option?  (Oddly, those kits have application overlap for some 90's Mazda RX-7/MPV/929 according to RA, too.)

I've posted a link somewhere in a couple of the transmission threads with the guys over in Australia working on a programmable TCU to improve shift functionality.

The transgo and the superior shift kits firms up the shifts by redirecting fluid and increasing spring pressure.
