I've heard that fully synthetic oil damages gasket seals and car burns oil on some vehicles with high mileage. Is this the case with VQ35DE engine? Can I safely use fully synthetic oil throughout the whole life of the car?

I use this part 999M1-XN004. Was about 70$ at the dealer. Very handy and useful thing.

Is it recommended to completely flush/bleed/change brake fluid in the car during its lifetime? I have not seen this requirement in the maintenance schedule but I know that brake fluid tends to get moisture over time and it loses its braking capabilities.

Hello My car is going slowly to 60k mark and I'm going to to Automatic Transmission maintenance. I don't live in US. I've read that Dexron III/Mercon fluid can be used. http://www.aral-lubricants.com/lubricants/com/automotive_lubricants/our_products/atf_55.html Is this fluid OK? Also should I change filter or not? It's 2003 SE part-time 4x4. nissan4parts.com says that if I change only fluid I will need pan gasket and drain plug gasket only. What is the expected amount I'd have to add? The capacity is 8.5 liters with converter but I guess only 2/3 of that will be drained.

Do you guys also follow time interval? I mean do you change every three or six month no matter what mileage do you have? For instance it takes 6 months for me to drive 3750 miles. In three months I drove about 2000 miles and according to manual I should have changed the oil and filter.

Do you add oil between changes and if yes what amount? Also what are your driving conditions? (Mostly on highway, Mostly in city, mixed mode)

Let's go. I do 6000 miles or 1 year. Using Aral Fully Synthetic 5w-30 oil
-
In my country there is no local nissan dealer so I use Fully synthetic 5w-30 to be sure that engine gets good treatment. Today I've found motor oil in one of the stores. After googling I found out that those oils can be purchased from (probably were imported from) http://jaytec-lubricants.com/ As they state they sell genuine lubricants for japan cars including nissan. http://jaytec-lubricants.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_7_15&products_id=15 According to manual my VQ35DE should get this oil. It has API burst symbol on it and also API service SM grade. It's mineral though. What do you think about that oil?

I agree with you completely that longer trips result in no or little oil consumption. I've once made a trip about 400 miles (one day) and the oil was at the same level after that, another 400 miles (one month) in a town and I noticed it was down again. I guess I don't have to worry about it.
-
I'm using fully synthetic long-life oil, so I change every 6000 miles or 1 year. Last time observation was that after 4000 miles it was on L mark of the dipstick. I know that there is 1 quart range from L to H, so my oil consumption was 1 quart per 4000 miles, Is that normal? Also you should take into consideration the fact that I'm driving in a dusty city, with lots of uphills and downhills, stoplights and mostly doing 5 mile trips a day.

Hello I could not find that info. I know that many manufacturers provide info how much oil should car consume on some mileage. For instance my friend's mercedes states that consuming half a liter on 10,000 km ~ 6,000 miles is normal and after that level engine needs repair. Does anyone know what is that info for pathfinder?

Hello I live outside USA and order parts through online stores. I ship to Mendota Heights, MN 55120 and they then ship to my country. I mainly used two sites www.mynismo.com and on that site there is a link to http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214252 Both stores are located in California and it takes a week to ship my goods to MN. I found www.parts.com but they do not accept international Visa cards. Does anyone know any store near MN that I can use to reduce the shipping wait time?

Hello Is there any step by step tutorial how to change drive belts on my 2003 pathy? I know that there are two belts and I've already ordered them but don't know how to replace them. Thanks.
-
I'm going to replace my front blades. I've ordered OEM parts and it seems that one blade is longer than the other. I guess the longer one should be installed on the driver's side. Is that correct?

It's like manual transmission sound when you change a gear and it does not go smooth, but only one beat. Also it's like the sound when you shift 4wd lever from 4h to 4l. Unfortunately I don't know how automatic transmission sounds when it's damaged or low on oil and you change gears but I suspect it's the same sound. Anyway it does not bother me too much. In every other situation car upshifts and downshifts smoothly. Maybe it's the normal behaviour for such an old-fashioned transmission. I susupect that it happens when the car is going to downshift from 3rd to 2nd and at that point I'm accelerating but only on downhill.
-
Hello I've got 2003 SE 4x4 with Auto transmission. I've noticed that only when I'm driving downhill and accelerating at certain speed transmission downshifts and some beating sound is heard. I don't know if it's connected but When I cranking the car at the morning some beating sound is also heard once. But that does not happen all the time. Could it because one of my 2 drive belts are not adjusted correctly?

My pathfinder came without it so I paid about 60$ to some guy who did all the measurement and skid plate. Here is the result. Now I feel more safe on the road and will be safe in winter in the snow. I was scared when I saw that radiator hoses and even oil filter is "visible" without skid plate. I don't want to imagine a case when some stone will hit oil filter when I'm doing 80mph and the car will bleed oil and my engine will be goner. The tricky part was to make exact cutouts for radiator support rubbers. The guy did not do it correctly so my dad had to widen them so skid plate does not touch any rubber. Here are the pictures.

My DIY - fuel filter and fluids

What was the mileage you replaced rear diff and transfer case oils at? -
Yes driveshaft, propeller shaft I guess is a japan term. I've looked thoroughly and there is no nipple on the rear driveshaft, only on the front.

Hello SE 4x4 I know that it's good to do that. I looked under the car and found one rubber plug. Can anyone confirm that there is only one point I should apply the grease to? Also is there any requirement on the grease type?

Is there any other way to find out if I have in-cabin air filter without removing the glove box?
-
Hello I've purchased brake pad set of 4, part number 41060-5W585. They came and I noticed that one of the pads has some metal on it. I guess it's wear indicator but in any case why only one of the pads has it?
-
OK! One more question: Is it safe to use mineral oil once you used fully synthetic?
-
I also use Fully Syntethic 5w-30 oil. I'm not sure about API Certification marks. I guess if there is a word mineral on a box, that oil is mineral based as is recommended by nissan.
