  1. My r tweeter blew. I'm pissed, but a friend has a parts Pathy that he said I could steel one from. Are the fronts components? I kind of thought that they were and a recent test may have confirmed that. WHen it blew I thought it mmight be a wiring problem. I hooked up a 3way 6x9 and only the tweet worked. Hmmm.
  2. I would rather see a section for 2005 and up Xterra's. It is afterall the new Pathfinder. I vried (on the inside) when I saw the '05 Pathy. Its an overbuilt stationwagon. The Xterra, on the otherhand, still posesses all of the qualities that made me fall in love with my Pathfinder. If an '05 Pathy forum is added, it should be done out of respect for the name, not the vehicle.
  3. Sad but true But another beer will make it all better!

    Test

Could some/anyone please reply to this? My email response hasn't been working and MrJim thinks that he fixed it. This is only a test. Thanks!
  5. I am NOT trying to bash your idea. I think that the design is great. I just think that if you want your idea to grow, you should look at steel and learning how to weld. Steel would enable you to expand your ideas to other parts like armor. Long term, I think that Al will lead to much higher costs and limit you options when it comes to what else you can do. I agree with Reido about steel vs aluminum. Fatigue does not occur only at bending. I have a fair amount of knowledge when it comes to bicycle frame engineering. Aluminum frames are incredibly stiff b/c they need to be. Any amount of flex in AL leads to fatigue and cracking. Even though AL has a lower molecular weight then Ti, Titanium frames weigh less because Ti is incredibly fatugue resistant. More so then steel by a wide margin. Is that mount going to be CNC'd? I know that is major $. Good luck with your ideas. I graduate college in December and one of my first purchases will be a welder. I have a couple of friends who are willing to teach me. I figure that a cheap welder from Harbor Freight and the rest of the needed gear / material will still cost me less $ then buying the parts that I want to weld. (rocksliders, armor, etc)

    Lsd

Just a thought. Please correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't an LSD still cause the wheels to counter-rotate if the truck is on a lift? If it didn't counter-rotate, your dif wouldn't function going around sorners. Its not an "always on" thing. I always though that an LSD was based on some sort of clutch mechanism that engaged when one wheel trys to break free.

    RUST RUST

I can't recomend this, but... A friend of mine cracked one of his frame rails all the wat through. Happened on a big pot hole. He used a square steel light pole to rebuild the frame with the help of a talented welder. If I hadn't seen the results, I'm not sure I would believe it. He essentially replaced the rails all around the r axle bends. The tubing he used was ~6" square. He also used the tubing to build a new front bumper/winch mount. The winch housing has sine cracked, but everything else is working fine. I'll try to find the pics I have. I think that they are on my parents computer.

My sticker is long gone. Just find some wet pavement and floor it!
  9. Couldn't agree more with the Pathy comments. The new Xterra is a continuation of the '95 Pathy's. I'm anout 95% sure that my next vehicle will be an Xterra. I drove an '05 a few months ago and liked it a lot.
  10. Around here (Boston), ita a numbers game. There are so many people driving Pathy's that a few eventually end up in Used Parts Yards. Nothing to do with quality. Lots of 4RUnners, too. Also b/c so many, not b/c they suck. The Jeep Grand Cherokee's, Blazers, and Rodeo's I see are a different story though.
  11. Have you removed your back seats? When I have them out, I fill the opening with my gear. Plenty of room for 2 large duffles. I also own a Thule roof box to throw messy stuff in. I wouldn't bother buying something that doesn't come all the way to the ground. Standing room is the biggest thing that I give up by sleeping in my Pathy. Since replacing my seat hings pins, I never use my small dome tent. Only use the big dome tent now. Only reason I bought a new tent was so that I could stand up in it. I want to learn how to sew so that I can try to make one myself. Maybe even markey it. My gf's brother is a clothing designer and said that he would help. If it ever pans out, you guys will hear about it first.
  12. My parents were in Russia last year visiting Russian friends of ours. Given what they said, I can believe that story. The biggest scam they were warned about was crooked cops allegedly checking papers in order to find illegal immigrants. Once they had you papers, they would refuse to give them back unless you paid a bribe. The other scam was employees charging 1/2 price admission to museums then letting in patrons in through side/back doors.
  13. I did mine yesterday. It was so easy that there really isn't anything worth mentioning. I did 6 full turns on each t-bar. The rear gave me ~3". Rides much stiffer, but not harsh. I would not want anything stiffer, so I recommend against the Ford springs. Most notably, I get much less body roll in turns and it doesn't wollow through higher frequency highway bumps. I have ~60 miles with the lift now and am very happy. The wierd thing is that the stock shocks were a little longer than the RS 5000s eye-to-eye, but I did not compare the stroke.
  14. I have this feeling like I have heard of aftermarket companies simply copying the dealer part #. Be careful. One "rule of thumb" that I have heard is that if it didn't come from a dealership, it isn't factory.
  15. Its a Used Parts Yard. Where's the respect?!?
  16. When I went looking for JGC lift springs, I found springs that *I think* would lift a JGC front end by 3/4". I do not know how this translates to the back of a Pathy. I was thoroughly confused about "JGC lift spring". Even after you realize what JGC means, it can be difficult figuring out which vehicle the term "lift" is meant for. Maybe "Replacement JGC springs" would be a better title. But, if your Pathy ends up too high, you can always cut the springs down some mroe. I can't get more than 2.5" total b/c of my shocks (RS 5000, 0-2.5" of lift).
  17. I would do JGC first. Its so much easier. Besides, a body lift won't get your frame rails any higher. You'll still have the same clearence issues. It took me less than an hour to "harvest" the springs. The whole job should take me less than 3 hours and cost less than $150, including springs, tools, and a new realignment. In the process, I picked up a set of RS 5000s for $172 w/ shipping. So ~$300 for 2.5" and an almost totally new suspension. As far as learning goes, I would consider myself a vehicle novice, but otherwise a mechanically talented person. Everything I have tried on my Pathy has been very straight-forward. Read the linked thread carefully and you'll be fine. Having talked to others who have done it, its even easier than it seems.
  18. 15 city, 18 highway if I am careful.
  19. I bought this angle grinder and these spring compressors to do the work. I forgot to buy cutting discs but picked one up for <$2.00. I haven't done it yet, but I have been assured by my friends who have done it that it is very easy. They are going to help me this weekend. I had little trouble finding a V8 (J)eep (G)rand ©herokee. If you can't see a V8 badge, look for the gold trim. Don't feel bad about not understanding "JGC". I though it was a brand-name for the longest time. I just bought Rancho RS 5000's for my truck. The "regular" shock is for 0-2.5" of lift. For getting the springs out of the JGC, I did not have the clamps. a pry bar like the bottom one in this setwas a big help. A long straight pry bar also helps. You'll use it like a long drift pin. I was very luck b/c the JGC I found was on top of another Jeep. All the parts were at chest-level anf one of the wheels was already off. The suspension was also unweighted.
  20. From the Garage page I paid $40 for the springs at a JY. You can get an angle grinder for $20 and spring clamps for $10 from Harborfreight.com.
  21. When I told my dad that I wanted to set up my Pathy for offroading when I had it paid off, I expected him to be pissed. Instead he said "Go for it". My dad has done the same sort of thing with a 1993 BMW 325is. Its set up for track driving. He's had it since it was new and it now has 180K on it. It runs like a Nissan! He also has a 2002 M3. But the 325 is more fun. You feel much more connected to it. It has more soul.
  22. I found a carrier at the you-pull JY for $50. I hear that they retail is $550.
  23. Does this help? There sre some springs here that I believe will lift a JGC 3/4". Don't know what that means for a Pathy. But I could be wrong. Found this site a while ago and only skimmed. They may have meant 3/4" for a Pathy. drivetrain.com
  24. Dito. Well, maybe not until after work. Dang bills!!!
