I'm gonna buy new tires/rims..advice on my selection please :)

Those are 15x8, then they have the 15x10 with 4.5back spacing for a little more money. I'm not gonna even ask what backspacing is before yozsi flames me.. But will 15x10 fit on a stock 90 pathy with 31 bfgs? -

Are these procomp rockcrawler rims equivalent to the cragar soft 8? http://www.4wheelparts.com/PDT63883.aspx full picture here: http://www.4wheelparts.com/aux_incl/images...&partNo=PCW I want to take advantage of 4 bfg at 31 x 10.50 for 483$ with free ship. NO cragars on 4wheel parts. I think the above looks like them and if i'm not mistaken they do come with those center caps. -
WTF, those threads didn't say to PUSH down towards ground and then Pull down, they were topics on shifting on the fly. Why are a couple of you flaming. I never drove let alone had a '4x4', first time engaging it, even some people here posted similar experiences. And the way the knob is diagramed I thought one down was 4l when in fact its 4H. I admitted I'm a noobie, wth don't flame me though. I'm sure you are a noobie in networking 100plus computers to a server domain, if you asked for help I wouldnt flame you..I know I know you just jealous of my noobie 4x4 skills, don't hate

Thanks sammy and csutke, tirerack looks good, I can read reviews of tires and summitracing I'll check in a bit at home. This pathfinder is a gas loving fool, I might not get mud ones if its gonna add to my forty bucks every 2 to 3 days in gas ritual lol. I hate some of my local friends here, dang ppl telling me don't waste money in the pathfinder, but yet I see them pouring thousands into their hooptie early years hondas and still looks and sounds horrible. One thing I learned, which applies to everything. NO ONE is gonna love your ride more than you. Not your mechanic, your family mechanic, etc. Hell no one is gonna love anything you own more than you, triple hell..no one is gonna love your body more than you, no doctor no therapist..you love you the most. -
I'm gonna buy a new set of tires/rims. This is my deal, I have about maybe 800-900$ spending limit. I'm thinking of bfg at, but I really want the bfg Mud terrain. Do I offroad a lot? none at the moment, but I would like to a few times when I can. I admit, I love the way mud terrain looks...so it's basically I would buy those for cosmetic looks. Would I suffer in gas mileage driving mud terrain tires on highway to work and back? I also looking at mickey thompson tires or those '**** cepak' tires. I love the rugged look. Rims, I have to see what deals I can find online. If I have to go cheap, it most likely be those cragar black rims. I like these http://www.4wheelparts.com/PDT66922.aspx but I kinda wish they were all black. If you guys have any hot sites to order rims and tires from please tell, so far i know of jcwhitney, 4wheelparts and 4x4parts.com update edit: I ordered this http://www.4wheelparts.com/prodDetail.aspx?partNo=PCW97-5883 and http://www.4wheelparts.com/prodDetail.aspx?partNo=BFG60316

Ok, using the picture above, from the scanned page of manual...I'm gonna assume that by default the shifter is always in N mode. if I pull down once is 4l, back one up is back to N, if I can go up , its gonna be 4h, and one more up is 2h? Or are you saying that its 2h is default and if I go down its 4h, then down is N, then down again is 4l? Am I also right to assume if I see the 'green car' light up in dash it means I'm in one form of 4x4 right? If its off, I'm not 4x4ing? But rereading redpath reply, I think I missed something. You mean I must grab the knob, PUSH toward the ground, and while pushing down..pull it down? I havent tried it that way. And if I'm getting this right, by default the gear shifter is always up? and if I simply pull down once, i'm in 4h? I can't believe this simple stick has me confused. Like said i'm new driver as of this year, lol. I can imagine when i start learning to drive manual stick, crap. I'm gonna go outside and try this in a sec.

So you saying if I push one down from N, I'm actually in 4Hi? Why would the know have 4h on top of N? I don't get this I"m all confused. U saying I have to go all the way down then up into 4l, and how exactly does one know they in 4l? Soon as I push down from N, all I see is a green car light up on the dashboard, theres no 4l or 4h indicators, someone throw me in the river please
-
denis, I never can pullup past N to 4hi or 2hi, all i can do is pull down to 4l. I went back out and try to force that thing up, no go. All i can do is pull down to L. Now, I noticed that if I pull down to L, forcing a bit more, it feels like I can go another down, and while tranny neutral, and pulling 4x4 shifter down, its a bunch of grinding noise. I'm gonna assume when 4x4 is in N mode, if I pull down is 4L and if I push up is 4H and if I go another up is 2h? My knob is in this order: 2H ^ 4H ^ N 4L ▼ I can pull from N DOWN to 4l. It is a smooth pull down to 4L. Now if I wiggle and force a bit, I can pull down like allll the way and it makes some grinding noise, I immediately push back up. I cant push up from N. Unless everything is pushing down order?

Nice tires, where did you buy them at, local or online? Did you get rims and tires at same time? How much total ?
-
Ok, it has snowed in NJ today!! enough where it is blanketed here. I wanted to test the pathy in these conditions. First I realized I am in BADLY need of new tires, ****** gripping on road. I've been looking for BFGoodrich mud terrains here LOCALLY and no one has them, the only thing I can find is BFG all terrain, and they only have 2 in stock. I'm gonna have to find a good deal online with super fast shipping. Looks like its kinda hard to get anything in 31x10.50x15 around here in local stores. Back to my 4x4 question. So I've read the stickies and some threads on this. So far, I put in Neutral and can pull the 4x4 gear down, into 4LO. It works and dang I get better traction/handling on the snowy road. However for the love of xmas ornaments, I cannot, CANNOT push the 4x4 gear up to 4hi or the other settings. It will only stay in N and allows me to push down to 4lo. I've tried some solid soft jerks upward, but wont budge. This is my first time testing this 4x4 mode.. I also kinda learned about those hubs, so I looked on the side of my front wheels, there are a hub on each that says automatic. Is it a possibility my 4x4 gear shifter is screwed up? Or something is not working correctly or is it just me not doing something right? While I am completely in stop mode, I shift into N, I then can move the 4x4 gear only down, it will not move above N for anything. It does seem 4x4 lo is working cause I did drive in that mode and provides better traction. Keep in mind I only owned this pathy since a few months, I never asked if previous owner used it before but confirmed that it was working. This is regarding a 90 pathfinder se. At this point I think something is wrong. I'm gonna go outside again and try jerking up a bit in diff angles..dang, I'm heartbroken. Could I drive in highway using 4x4 lo? it helps out a lot in traction until I get some new tires.

Oil & Fluid checking, filling and leaks 101
NaturaTek replied to NaturaTek's topic in General Forums
Ok, where would I find transfer case and rear end differential fluid at, so I can check/fill? Grease all the 'zerqs'? Where can I find those at, and what is that, lol -
Simons thought looks interesting, try that! Damn, I wonder if I have to do something like that if I replace speakers on mine. I'm using the stock pioneers on a 90 path, sounds good.

Yes, advanced noobie question So I was reading another thread about living with a oil leak. I didn't want to thread hijack so I figure let me ask a couple of questions regarding this and others. What are ways to check if you have any oil leaks? Besides moving the car and theres a blotch of oil on the pavement. Are there any slow silent killer oil leak types that go unnoticeable then one day boom? What are good ways to detect slow/silent killer leaks of any fluids/oil, if there are any ways? What are the most common leaks if any? I'm gonna assume it's basic motor oil leaks. So far in learning, I know to check Motor oil, brake fluid, and transmission fluid..oh and add radiator antifreeze. Are there any other fluids I have not mentioned that one should check?? If there are any leaks, the most common thing to check/fix are the seals? Anything on top of that could be something serious? I'm not sure if I am overdoing this, but I've been checking fluids mentioned above every sat or sunday. If one does find a leak will those walmart 'stop a leak' additive really work? My instinct tells me no, thats like a shark bites my inflatable raft and theres a roll of scotch tape that says 'stop a air leak', really won't just do anygood and the aftermath awaits you. When one does fill or 'tops' the fluids, is it generally a good idea to stick with one brand or 'whatever you get' every given time is ok? If theres anything here I have not mentioned that is crucial to this thread, please help out a noob, I'll send you a hallmark card for xmas.

Something tells me this thread with that title will have a lot of clicks, lol. BTW, wtf is a BJ? (in pathfinder terms)

"Warming up your car", is it a Myth or a Must?
NaturaTek replied to NaturaTek's topic in General Forums
How many of you path guys actually use 5/30 for winter use? Is it safe for 10w30 mobil 1 for winter (NJ.NY winter) use? -
I was googling info on oils and found a post that said: 10w40 is harldy ever used anymore (do not use it unless you have a car that calls for it, mostly older cars). 5w30 is VERY thin, so it heats up & breaks down very fast. You forgot the other option which is 10w30 & this is the oil you should use all year round (unless you are in the artic). People will tell you 5W30 is better (which it is given the choice of that or 10w40) but 10w30 is the best for normal cold winters (like New York or Chicago type). I have driven in some of the coldest of winters (-60 with the wind chills) & have never had a problem with 10w30 oil. You may also hear that you should let your car warm up for 10 mins before you drive it. This is another myth as you want to put the engine under load (in drive & in motion) as soon as you can. While the engine is "warming up" for the 10 mins (in idle) the rpms are much faster & not much oil is getting to the required parts. There may be times it is sooooo cold that all your fluids are goop, so you have to give it a few mins to warm up. But as soon as it will let you, put the car in motion. I have to admit, I've heard the warm up for 10minutes theory for a long long time. But in light of that post and other reading, is it a myth??? Or a must? I also admit, man, I start my pathy up and just go. I hate waiting and I always feel guilty of this 'warming up' theory in the back of my head. I'm pretty sure its common sense to warm up in the cold arse winter (I have not driven in winter yet, this year be the first), but if this warming up car is actually true, how much harm will one do if they don't warm up their car/svu?

Button in the center console for shocks on a 90 path? I have a 90 path, where exactly would I find such a button????

What other types of SUV make good off road vehicles besides pathys?
NaturaTek replied to NaturaTek's topic in General Forums
I thought you guys were joking when you said a suzuki samurai, in fact..thought you guys smoked some crack, I'm like wtf, those things looked ****** back then, and I thought they had a recall for tipping over on street. Then I found it's use in offroading doing some googling: -
I love my pathy..but I'm wondering what other types of SUV will make a good off road ride. I'll be honest, I know @!*% about 4x4'ing, but looking at Xterras they look appealing to the eye as a great off road ride. Someone said the frame is made of titanium, can anyone vouch for this? The newest xterras look blah, but early 2000 models have that rugged look to them, maybe I'm weird like that lol. And they are made by Nissan, so it must be good. FJ cruiser looks hot too, when added with lift kits and stuff. I saw a picture of one hooked up nice on some expedition site. But dang they don't come cheap for a second vehicle. What are some other rides you guys would probably buy for a second offroad vehicle that you think is worthy? No no, you're not cheating on your pathy, that's why I said second vehicle
