  1. I got recommended to a meineke shop in NJ, haven't driven there yet. But if anyone wants to do this job, basic replace bolts/gasket, and have experience, let me know. I want to attempt so badly on my own, but I never done any car work other than change my own oil, & I just recently learned that, 1990 pathfinder. It's getting too loud/annoying. At first it was cool, I could like and say I had a aftermarket muffler. Now no one is buying that line. Anyone has any recommendations, let me know. If you want to do it, PM me your price and location, Thanks!
  2. Hate to bump this back up, but no one had any input on my 2 questions. Is it safe to use PB Blaster on sparkplugs while in engine..spraying them down and wait 24hours to remove? I read that 'tip' in a website, but want to confirm thats safe with the Pathfinder gods And can I remove those clamps on the hoses..that look like you have to squeeze/pull to tighten with clamps that can be tightened by a screw?
  3. Yep got the oil filter too. Hmm ac upgraded? Well when I first got it, I bought the conversion kit, and my cousin removed the old Rrefrigerant type and filled with new type. I was looking at a video online, it says I might have to 'upgrade' the connector part. Just disconnect connect new fuel filter? fuel doesn't leak out huh? Or do I have to temp clamp the hoses while changing?
  4. pezzy, can you add a couple of good shots of your current 99 pathy? I cant find them thru searching. wanna see how yours look after some loving.
  5. So I bought like 300bucks worth of stuff for my 90 pathy, ngk iridiums, cable set, mobil one oil, dist cap, rotor cap, AC recharge kit, etc.. I'm googling on How To change fuel filter. Some sites say hoist it up, release pressure underneath, plug in a gauge?, check pressure, etc. I could swear my cousin simply disconnected it and connected it. Unless that was a ghetto way he did. Whats the good way to change fuel filter on path? I don't wanna blow up! Also I remember he changed the AC to the new stuff, and was working cold last summer, I fired it up twice this year and blows nothing but warm to hot air. I bought the basic arctic chill thing with screw on gun gauge (to keep for future use), but I could NOT for the life of me fit that mofo in the 'L' port of pathy. I'm thinking I need to change that part to fit the new stuff in. I'm wrong or right? I was reading thru some posts and I found that some people have that quick 'smell of gas' when turning on their pathys. This happens to me on occasion. Post said to tighten up the hoses. I looked at mine, mines have those clamps that you squeeze to tighten. Is it ok if I remove that type of clamp and replace with the type that you can screw to tighten it up? I looked and looked, and did not find that 'sparkplug tool' that comes with pathfinders. Thru searching (yes I farking searched!), I found a users method of 3' extension with elbow and another 3' extension. Will try that. I only have one 10' extension, need to head over to sears hardware. Also remembering somewhere on web before changing spark plugs that might be stubborn to spray PB blaster on them and let them soak for a day. Is this safe? And could the pathy be driveable while 'soaking' , lol. Also bought a tube of antiseize to lube the top for future removal. Damn spark plugs wires costed 85$ at peppy boys. Some brand BWD?? Says 7mm. I'm hoping these will be good. Whats a good system to do, change dist cap first. then change on plug at a time, and connect one new wire at a time? According to tuning up on autozone, it says I need PCV valves? It's like 3bucks, WTF is that and how many would u need? Also bought the k&n filter cleaning kit for 11bucks at peppy girls. I think I'm just gonna pull the filter at night and do that @!*% in the kitchen sink, pop it back in next morning. Dist cap and rotor cap, I'm sure they are gonna be easy stuff. I got Mobile 1 oil and new oil pan plug, this time I'm sure to do the exact amount 3 and 5'8 quarts, not the 5quart method like cousin did. Family sometimes they stick ya, then expect the best from you. Finally I got all the stuff, just need to set a few hours to get everything rolling. If I don't post back, it means I blew up or something.
  6. Was looking at pathys in local area to possibly buy another, this one looks good condition but the curve look quite looks blah. Is this good deal on it or pass and keep looking? http://newjersey.craigslist.org/car/647263460.html
  7. Pez, can you link a link to some of your pathy photos? The one in your signature is tiny. Want to see what a 99.5 looks after some pez loving.
  8. Maybe someone wanted to get some cheap, this week is it. It's on the weekly ad here in NJ, but I'm sure it's nationwide too. 50% off Ranchos and Monroes. Not sure what series of rancho is covered, sears said all ranchos and monroes, but I think they only carry 5000.
  9. Whats this 'compression' test you guys talking about? Where and how can I do one, and what is the cost for that? I want one now
  10. I'm debating on whether or not to buy a new ride. Not sure yet. So far I've been looking at Pathfinders and Xterras but I just find the new ones/looks just don't do it for me. 2004 and earlier Xerras look nice and the new pathfinders look ok but not for me, I need that rugged look, not that airport bus look. Xterras look tasty, just don't know if they gonna have room for my 6ft arse. I should go to a dealer and sit in one. If you guys have any opinions on what you think is the best year for any let me know!!!
  11. Ok guys, just want to follow up on some stuff. .33 gaping for 90 pathfinder, and use NGK platinum at least. Reaching that sixth plug, can I do this with a 3/8 ratchet and a 6inch extension? Or would you recommend 1/2 ratchet? I'm tall so I'm sure I can reach any area over engine. Is it safe to do, hmm, lets say spray PB on the 6th plug overnight before removing it? I'm not saying my plug is stuck, I haven't tried yet. Just would like to know all options. And antiSieze, is that the exact name of the product and available at any autoparts? What about walmart?
  12. Kitt, dang..we have things in common, we ride 90 pathys and our girls driving a cavalier. LOL, those things feel tiny once u ride in pathys for a while. What other stuff have you done to your pathy in the last couple of months?
  13. On the dashboard (left of the steering wheel, at least on mines), theres a tiny switch. 3 settings, alarm on, impact off and off. Try a few see if it helps you.
  14. Thanks for the input guys. .33 gaping it is. I googled and some people spray PB blaster and/or gently tap on a hammer to the ratchet, like a poormans impact gun. Spraying stuff down the plugs sounds troublesome? Also read it doesnt take much tightening, since threading on motor (or was it the plug) is aluminum. I should be doing this in a week, I'm informed so I wont do a infamous oil change again lol
  15. Oh I forgot, what is the PROPER gapping for plugs, for pathfinder?? Some people has said that you can tweak a little with certain gaps. Since I dont know jack about that stuff, I at least want to gap the correct normal way for my pathy. To the guy who said he had probs with the platinums, please speak your mind! How long of an extension would u guys recommend for ratchet to remove #6 plug? If I feel a plug wont come lose, are there any tips to loosen them up? A friend had said if I break a plug while removing it, I pretty much junked the car as it is no good. How much truth there is to that?
  16. Is this the same as the emergency brake cable? Mine has been broken since buying the pathy. I tried going to Strauss Auto and asking for 'emergency brake cable', they said it's not in their system. Maybe they do, and I just got had a noob employee. Need to fix mines!
  17. Hi, Did my first oil change as you guys read in other post. Went smooth but I got the recommended quarts way off. So before I go get my local crap advice, I'd ask you pros first! I want to change my plugs/wires next. I've read thru posts theres a 6 plug thats hard to remove, but with a tool that comes with pathy makes it easier. I do not have that tool. Is there something I could buy at sears hardware to remove this certain plug with ease? Is there anything extra I should do, like spray the plugs with PB or something? Lol, that could be dangerous? Yes I heard NGK is best recommended but there are a few flavors of this plug. I really dont care about the Best, but I want to know what WORKS BEST with our 90 pathfinders. Please let me know what series of ngk works nicely. Wires, I assume they all the same or is there a nice recommendation for those? I want to do this job nicely without my noob arse messing up, any tips/tricks are gladly appreciated! Thanks guys.
  18. Christ man, now u say 5quarts is ok, it can handle it. Will it be ok till the next oil change or should I fix this ASAP?
  19. Yes I did put a new oil filter. I also put fresh oil into the filter (via a tip I got from ehow.com), and did the light lubing around the ring and a nice hand tightened finish. I will empty out tonight and do right way. If you overfill, the oil should be way up pass the H? I do remember pulling out the dipstick and it just being half oiled, dang it, smack me!
  20. If I'm ever in Canada, I'll be sure to pay you a visit Simon!
  21. Ok 3 and 5/8 quarts it is. Here's another noob question. I poured in the 5quart jug of Mobil1..If I buy the quart container ones, will there be a notch on the side that tells me quart measures? Example, maybe theres a notch that will tell me what 5/8 quart level should be? Or will I have to buy a meauring cup and measure that 5/8 exactly? Why the F do I listen to these non 4x4 noob friends
  22. How would you recommend I remove the excess? Should I 'siphon' or drain from the bottom? So I got this straight now, 1990 v6 takes approximately 3 and 5/8 quarts? Dang it, first oil job and I messed it all up. I should've listened to the chiltons manual at least, it says put it in 3 to 4 quarts then check levels/add from there. I feel like just draining everything and start from scratch. On dipstick I should NOT pass the H level?
  23. Did my first oil change ever...yes this noob is going up in ranks. BUT.. I'm breaking my head over whether or not I screwed up in how much oil I put in. Cousin (mechanic) told me it's 5 quarts. Some people actually told me 6 quarts. Chilton manual says add 3-4 quarts, then keep adding oil and check the stick. I put in the whole 5 quart jug of Mobil 1. I haven't seen anything leak? Googling also reveals 5quarts recommended for my 1990 v6 nissan pathy. Did I screw up and put too much? I have driven it for 3 days already and my conscious is killing. Today a local friend told me if I 'overfill' I'm actually not correctly lubricating the engine. Some please tell me the recommended quarts of oil needed for a Nissan pathy 1990 v6! Also, the oil dipstick... what is recommended, that you do NOT past the H? Or stay at a certain spot on the stick reading? And if I did put too much oil, what are the consequences and/or symptoms? And what should I do..drain a little oil, or do a new complete oil change? I really hope the 5 quarts I put in was correct
  24. Dude, I'm not a expert, but here are my takes, from my own pathy experience. First experience: After nearly two months owning my pathy, my cousin decided to clean my engine, cough. He sprayed 'spray9', all over the freaking engine, then took a gas powered water pressure cleaner, and pressured rinse the whole engine. I turned the pathy on, and noticed engine was stuttering, like moving side to side feeling, causing the front that shaking feel. I was like what the F. I started driving home, and everytime I stopped at a red light, that whole pathy shaking side to side was annoying. Felt like you was driving a old arse put-put mobile. Called him up and he told me that was normal, that I had a 'misfire' under the distributor cap, and should go away once dry. But DAMN, that shaking in the front engine didnt go away until like 4-5 days later. The beginning was the intense shaking, and as every day went by, it slowly started going away until it completely vanished. Second Experience: One time, a few blocks away from home, I saw a little puddle on a side drive thru of Wendys. That very instant I wanted to play wannabe 4x4 tonka man, so I cut thru the lot and went thru the small water puddle about 20mph. While yelling out the dukes of hazzard 'yeehaw', water splashed up to the sides high enough where it was near top edge of drivers window. Was a quick 6 second splash or less. Anyway continuing driving home, I noticed it was sluggish..I could press the gas down and it wouldnt go no more than 25-30mph. I was like wtf. Drove around for a few mins to see if it would go away. Still sluggy. Then remembering what happened with the home made engine cleaning cousin did, I attributed to water being the cause, and I guess I would have to wait till it dries out. Next day, it was all fine. Reading thru some posts here that night, it seem a few ppl had that problem and mentioned it was a loose cable connected to spark plugs or just old. I never checked but I need to replace all plugs and wires soon. Perhaps its a water issue, if you don't get rid of it in, give it a day or two and see if it subsides. I actually was pissed off that night going thru that puddle. I see all these photos of pathys basically immersed in water and a quick splash thru a 2inch water puddle halted my pathy wtf.
