tuned, I have never heard of it on a PF, but I know VW Jette's have the same thing. I was washing my PF today I gave it a try but nothing. Then again my PF is a 2001. If you find out let me know, that would be a sweet option when spring comes around.

I took the factory wiring harness of my dad's PF when I installed the hitch. The factory harness is pretty sweet. It connects right into the factory taillight connectors. All I had to do was remove the inner body panels to gain access to the main taillight connection, unplug it, plug in the wire harness, and reconnect. Then drag the remaining wires through the drain holes on ether side behind the rear tires, connect it to the hitch, hide the wires, and I was done. Not sure if the dealer sells it or not, but if they do, I would recommended it especially if you don't want to cut into the factory wiring.

Tuned200, The OEM hitch I have looks more like the digram then the picture on the link I gave. It has the square tubing. Here is a picture from the back of my car:

I got a Nissan hitch which I took from my dad's PF. It's pretty nice, and step up on the back is a plus. If you get one, I would go with the factory hitch, becuase it looks good on the car and there is not a big gap betwen the bumper and hitch it's self. It will probably cost you a little more to go with the Nissan hitch, I thing it runs about $250.00 plus Nissan might charge you an other $150.00 to install it. I would try to install it you self to save some $$$$, just be sure to put the bolts at factory spec.

Hey just went back to the 4 crawlers web site and it stated that they now make sliders for 1996 and up Pathfinder. Well it just said update 1996 to present. rock sliders any idea? any one got a set for 2001 and up? I know that this was talked about in the past and that they didn't make them for 2001 and up.

My sunroof rails are looking a little dry and I would like to relube them. Any suggestions on what to use? Also my drivers side window is a little slow when rolling up. I took it to the Nissan once and the lubed something and it worked alot better. Any idea on what kind of lube to use and where on the windows?

Finally got my new OME shocks in today. They look like a good fit and good quality. They better for $80 a pc. It will probably be a week or so before I install them, but I'll let you all know how it goes.

Matt, Sounds just like mine before I fixed it. I only had the noise in first gear and when I took off from a stop. The bushings can seem ok at first look, but look closer for leaks or and thing that might look like damage. I can take a picture of the bushing if you like, to show you what I found.

I had the same problem on my PF, if you check some of my past posts you will see. It ended up being the Right rear upper link bushing. It didn't look to bad but it was a little pulled apart. I got the whole rear upper link, and it cost about $110. The noise was just like you described, like a rubber hammer hitting something. After I replaced it, the noise was gone. It did take me awhile and a couple of trips to Nissan to figure out what it was. The sound started after I had my EMU springs installed, so for the longest time I thought that was it. Good luck.

Mathew, check your haynes manual again it should be in section 1-32 to 1-34.

Well, I took those over sized ProComp shocks off the other day and replaced them with my factory shock, until (if ever) my old man emu shocks come in. This think is turning into a mess. If there is one think I learned, is if you want something done right to do it your self. The shop that put my springs and shocks in stripped/cross treaded my lower shock bolt driver side which in welded to the rear axle. Now I can't tighten the nut back on all they way with out it slipping. So I'm going to have to go to Nissan and pay $$$$$$$$ to get a new bolt welded on. At least one good thing, there are no more popping noises. I'll keep you all updated.

Well, found the answer to my popping noise. It was combination of a busted end link bushing and the wrong shocks. I replaced the end link yesterday and tomorrow I'm going to reinstall my factory shocks until my old man EMU shocks come in. -study-

dupersc, there just the regular pro comp explore shocks, and they suck. The only reason there on there is to hold me over until I get my EMU shocks. The shop I order the EMU shocks from gave me these until they come in, but it’s been 20 days and counting? I think I'm going to replace the pro comp with my factory shocks tomorrow b/c these are making to much noise. Hopefully the factory ones won't top out on regular road rides?

Ok, as some of you might know I got my new EMU rear springs installed with a set of Pro Comp Shocks. Now almost every time under normal driving conditions I get this popping sound from the REAR that I can here and feel in my 5 speed shifter. The popping sound/feel only occurs in first gear, and only while I let of the clutch and give it gas. If I do it real slow there is almost no noise but if I drive normal, it pops when the clutch is almost let out. Now I went back to the shop that installed my (rear) springs and shocks to make sure that everything were installed correctly. They said that the sound was coming from the rear axle where it connects to the differential. They said it sounds like the bearings. I said at only 40,000 mile on a 2001? Keep in mind I have been towing a lot. Anyway I got up under my Pathfinder today and I can move the drive axle back and forth, but not too much. Is this normal in a drive axle? Please help with any ideas. I’m taking it to Nissan this week to flush the radiator and I’m going to have them take a look at the drive axle, springs and shocks. I love my Pathfinder but in the last 40k I have had problems with the rotors, o2 sensor, bottoming out, and now this popping noise, and I want to keep this car for a long time but………….I might have to trade it for a mini. Thanks for any help. It's making me :oops:

I purchase the Nissan Hynes Manual this weekend and followed up on the rear spring installation. It seems like the springs do have to be turned a certain way. The bottom end of the coil should be turned to the front of the Pathfinder, and the side where the noise is coming from is a quarter turn off. This might also be the problem. I was going to turn them myself but I figure since I get my new shock installed I'll let them do it. I let you know the end results.

Looks nice, That's the next thing on my list after I finish my suspension up grades.

Well, I installed the plastic sleeves this morning, but the noise is still there. Everything looked good as for the springs, so I going to say the noise is from the shock. Hopefully my EMU shocks come in this week. I'll let you all know. :confused:

The plastic sleeves were not on the springs, but luckly I kept my old springs and they were still on there. Tomorrow I'm going to put them on my springs and see if that helps. Do the springs need to turned a certain way?

Well, I thought it might be possible that they installed the springs wrong, but after getting up under the car, it looks like there is no real wrong way to install the spring. I’ll just hope it’s the shock, because I don’t want to spend a lot of $$$$ trying to figure out the problem.

i bet it's my shocks, but i'll find out this weekend when I replace them with ome shocks.

Ok, so everything is not so great. I got my Old Man EMU springs and pro comp shock installed and now there is this popping sound every time hit the gas from a stand still. I think it might be the shocks b/c my local 4 wheel parts store tried to make some work and they are not the correct ones for my car. I have gone ahead and order a pair of old man emu rear shock and they should be in this Friday. I think the shocks are the problem but if not I have a couple of question to try and help me find a solution if the shocks are not it? Question: 1. Can lifting the rear put you drive line/drive shaft out of line making it pop in first gear? 2. Is there a certain way the springs have to be installed/positioned or they will make a popping sound. 3. Will the incorrect shock cause a popping sound? Thanks for any help. :help:

I had my new rear Old Man Emu Springs and Pro Comp Shocks Installed last week and man the ride is 100% better. The springs are alot stiffer and even with 3 people in the back seat it does not bottom out. It also sits about 1 inch to 1.5 inches higher then stock so now there is now more sagging in the rear. Cost wasn't too bad. Springs were 69.00 each (138.00), shock were about 37.00 each (74.00) and installation at my local four wheel shop was 3 12packs (30.00) -alcohol- .
