mjotrainbrain's Build Thread
mjotrainbrain replied to mjotrainbrain's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Yeah, I don't get it at all, lol. On the topic of its tail lights, I wasn't a fan of the style so I wouldn't have grabbed them anyways, but they were soooo broken, it's sad how much stuff on this truck was broken. The rust hole in the driver's side fender was "fixed" with self tapping screws and some sheet metal, ultimate beater, haha. -

It did not as far as I could tell, no spacers and the coils looked stock. No idea why it looked so tall in that picture. -

Went to the junkyard today to investigate a QX4 with a steel tube rear bumper and rock sliders. Wow, what a rusted heap, not to mention how terribly those mods were fabbed and mounted! It's too bad, because it's clear the PO cared, it had some quality parts on it, including a brand new Curt hitch that I removed for a fellow NPORA member. Also got another strut bolt so I can replace my one remaining camber bolt as well as the roof rack cross bars, since the pre-facelift bars are considerably lower-profile than mine. Can't wait to see how much lower the roof basket is going to sit when I get it put back on come spring! -
The only time I mind working with springs is when they need to be compressed. Haven't had any close calls yet, and I don't intend to have any! I usually take my struts to a shop and have them switch coils around or whatever I need to have done. As far as the rear axle the springs don't usually need much if any compression so I'm comfortable doing that. Good luck on the install, stay safe and have fun!

Thanks, I can see again! Looks like a very clean install, I like it! Stands out a little more than I'd like, but it's better than a dangling wire for sure, also probably a lot more protected that way.

Which extension did you download? Because the one I've been using seems to have stopped working. I'd like to see this guy's progress pics, lol

Glad you figured it out! Your issue with the pictures is PhotoBucket itself, you can't share pics to forums unless you pay an outrageous fee. I suggest postimage.org instead. Upload the picture you want, then use the direct link pasted into the "Image" tool in the forum post editor.

Fleurys ships really fast, I was happy with that when I ordered mine. Those height measurements seem a little low, but I can't remember; it's been a long time since mine was stock. It may be worth doing them as long as it's all taken apart.

Looks like you figured out the pictures, haha. Looks great!

What Micah said for sure. Custom is usually cheaper for these trucks when it comes to armor. I like to have a look at the fabricator's work first, when I had my bumper made he invited me into his shop and showed me all his current projects.

I've found that around me in Michigan it's very hard to find a WD21 for sale, let alone a good one. R50 is about 10 years younger so you can find clean ones fairly easily if you look.

How well do you sand/brush the rust down? Do you get it down to shiny metal, or just to the point that there's no more loose material? I'm probably going to end up using POR-15 since it should counteract the rust, making the prep work a lot easier and the final product a lot better done. I do really like how your final result looks though, if mine didn't have so much rust already (ah, the north) I bet a rig could be made to look like new fairly easily.

I feel like I may have asked before, but I can't remember. Could you share your technique and products used for undercoating? It looks fantastic!

sfcreations.com makes aluminum skidplates. The guy who runs it is a Pathfinder enthusiast here on the forum, Fleurys.

interchangeable parts between pre and post-face?
mjotrainbrain replied to MrPixar's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Seats should be possible, front end only is if you swap out the whole front clip, but it should bolt right up from the experiences of others that I've read about. Rear bumper probably won't line up perfect due to fender flare differences, but it should bolt up. Can't guarantee any of that because I've never done it, but from what I've heard over time it should all be possible. -
Check this out, it should help your research. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-hotlink-fix/kegnjbncdcliihbemealioapbifiaedg?hl=en These power valve screws are definitely something to look into, especially with all these recent conversations.

Pretty sure there's some write ups out there. Might have to dig around a bit, they were probably written close to a decade ago.

4x4 parts rear swaybar disconnects
mjotrainbrain replied to NovaPath's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Yeah I totally meant end links, lol. I've never felt the need to remove my rear sway bar, I get more than enough flex and now that I have wider tires and wheels that pome out I have too much flex. To each their own I suppose, but I like the handling how it is. -
4x4 parts rear swaybar disconnects
mjotrainbrain replied to NovaPath's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I'll be interested to see your results from the LR3 disconnects, if it works out I'll definitely be switching to this when I need to replace them again. Strange how so much Land Rover stuff fits on the rear of our rigs, and it took 20 years for anybody to notice... -
Do you have snow where you live? If so, it's worth getting tires with the Three Peak Snow Rating (or whatever it's called) such as the BFGoodrich KO2 (I have these and love them) or GoodYear Wrangler Duratrac. On my truck I needed camber bolts. You're technically supposed to install them in the bottom hole from what I've read or else you risk them turning or shearing off. For the struts, if you're planning to replace the bearing at the same time it is highly recommended that you get OEM Nissan, especially rather than KYB. Some members have had very bad experiences (although the KYB struts are excellent). Sorry for rambling!

Good luck! Make sure you have backup/emergency plans in case it leaves you stranded.

What did you do to your Pathfinder today?
mjotrainbrain replied to RedRider3141's topic in The Garage
Close call! Glad you're back, wondered why you weren't posting! -
I notice my MPG when I go on short offroading trips (two hours total on the highway at 75-80mph and 7-9 hours in the woods) actually yields about average fuel economy, so I figure I must be doing really well on the highway portions. I feel like maybe our engines are most efficient in the upper 2000's?
