  1. Yeah, the unlimited is the 4 door. It's a pretty amazing vehicle, but I guess it should be for what they cost.
  2. So, after losing all the kidneys my wife and I were endowed with this weekend at Hidden Falls, we joined the dark side. Our JKU is supposed to hit the ground at the dealership tomorrow. The pathy will be going up for sale soon. Houston guys keep your eyes open!
  3. TRO at Hidden Falls. Several jeep guys said I was their hero, lol. http://youtu.be/vUC1Oc9SLbI Not my video, but you'll get the idea.
  4. Wheeled it on the beach with GV280Z and some others.
  5. Installed new struts on the hatch. Sure is nice not to be afraid for my life when the hatch is open! Finally put the 2 missing studs in the hub.
  6. I just cleaned the wheels with some go-jo gel hand cleaner (not the abrasive kind) to get the brake dust off, made sure they were dry and went at it. Don't do it in bright sun, it dries too fast and leaves a crappy finish. It took 6 coats on each wheel to make it smooth, which is about half a can.
  7. I plasti dipped the wheels on my wife's old stang. Held up really well. If you get tired of it, it peels off with a little effort.
  8. When your jeep buddies stop to wait on you and you're telling them to hurry up. Oh, and when you have a metal fence post to hold up the 2 ton hatch. (Ordered replacement struts)
  9. Thanks! I knew better than to put them in the tray of my stool, there's a gremlin that steals every small item I put there. It was dark when we finished, they probably got kicked into the grass.
  10. When I took off the nuts to take the hub off, 2 of the studs backed out. Naturally they've vanished. I can find part numbers all day long, but I can't find the stud dimensions. If anyone knows, please post up. Otherwise, I'm just going to take one of the nuts to the hardware store and get a couple of grade 8 studs..... and some locktite!
  11. The light was already out. I thought it was the bulb. Sometimes I'm clear as mud!
  12. We're going to Hidden Falls Offroad in Marble Falls, Texas for Labor Day Weekend. It's the 4wheelparts customer appreciation event. All our friends who're going have Jeeps. Anyone else going?
  13. Cool, that switch looks like it has the potential to have issues. I saw them on Ebay for pretty cheap, but I wasn't able to tell who the manufacturer was. Thanks for posting the diagram!
  14. My driver's side headlight doesn't work after changing the bulb. I haven't dug out my meter yet. Occasionally when I switch to high beam, it flickers for a second. This leads me to think it's the switch. What I'm wondering is does current flow from the switch to the fuse box (individual fuses for each headlight) or vice versa?
  15. Thanks for all the input! We finally got it back together last night. The junkyard hub had the lock washer, even though I was told it didn't. I'd been driving around with it for a week, waiting on Nissan... DOH!!! I now have that one, and the one I intend to take back to McDavid since they overcharged me. Truck drives fine, Now I just need to figure out what's wrong with the driver's side headlight. Yes, I changed the bulb.
  16. For you Houston people, the parts dept at McDavid Nissan sucks. I called Clear Lake, and got much better treatment. They told me there are only 2 of the lock washers in their inventory nationwide. I had to special order it since McDavid can't even figure out where in the order process they are. If I wind up with both of them, I'll let you know. Once I see it, I'll either try and duplicate it myself, or have someone do it on the plasmacam. That last part all depends on if I get a job teaching at TSTC like I hope. I had the same response when I called the junkyards in Pasadena. One of the guys who answered the phone even spoke English!
  17. I didn't word that well. I meant the bar needed to be 2" wide. Yeah, 6.5" or maybe 7" long. I also remember now that my buddy welded a nut to one of the pieces of bar so there's not so much juggling involved.
  18. A piece of 15/16" all-thread long enough for your purpose, two nuts to fit same, and a couple of pieces of 2" bar with a 15/16" hole drilled in it. Put one nut and bar on one end, run it through the spring, then put the other nut and bar on. Tighten (breaker bar unless you're Superman) and install. Then just take the nuts off and drop the all-thread out. Make sure the bar is thick enough to handle the stress!
  19. I guess I wasn't clear. It was the front end. The half shaft survived, unlike the hub. I got a hub from the junkyard. Has both bearings, but the grease is milky looking, so we'll replace them. Turns out there are 12 junkyards on N. Shepherd in Houston. Still waiting on the lock washer to come in. Glad to know there is a source for parts, even if I have to go to DFW. We have plenty of family and friends there, so it can be a dual purpose run!
  20. Apparently Autozone doesn't have the monopoly on morons that I thought. The lock washer was missing from the hub, allowing the bearing to eat itself. He ordered the wrong part, which naturally is only available from the dealer.
  21. Should probably start a new thread, but here goes..... I knew the passenger side rotor was bad. Tried to push it, and ended up barely getting home yesterday. Took it to my buddy's house today to fix the brakes. Ends up both calipers are bad, and the passenger side bearing is about half missing. Truck didn't wobble or shimmy like you'd think it would and there were no strange noises I could hear. The bearing is frozen to the hub. Going to take some heat to get the bearing out so the hub will come off. Fun stuff....
  22. Do you know if the dimensions for the front skid you made are the same for a WD21? Also, how long and wide is it? The only thing I was really worried about was getting the angles correct. I have access to a plasma cam and a brake, so that part is easy.
  23. To resurrect a dead thread, this happened to us yesterday and almost yanked us off the road. We'd just finished wheeling at the beach. When I touched the wheel, it was so hot it left a red mark on my hand. Glad to find this info!
