  1. Here, I had left it on the Pathfinder. So went out to remove it just to take a pictures.. The blue material you see is the denim I used between the pincers of the vice grip so I didn't damage it (ironic huh?) I loosened the pulley bolt very slowly however i hadnt noticed the vice grips twist under the alternator brace :<. It looks like there are two pulleys, one in the front, and a dual in the back. Where would someone like me find a replacement for that back pulley? I am heading to the wreckers tomorrow hopefully to pull one of two they have on a 92, and a 95. Not sure if they have the pulley until I get there however I am taking both if they both have pulleys. Just in case..
  2. Oh, there is a difference between the two? I thought that the whole 3 pulley assembly was the harmonic balancer. In that context I have clearly damaged the pulley that is closest to the engine. Can I just purchase the damaged pulley? If so I will start looking around but not sure what to look for. Thank you for the distinction though. Assumed it was all one unit...
  3. Hey everyone. I was wondering if all the models of Pathfinder between 90 and 95 have the same balancers? I am looking for a cheaper alternative to new and there is a 92, and a 95 pathfinder at the local yard and might be able to find a replacement balancer.. This pathfinder has the three belts not the serpentine belt or the thicker one with the teeth just standard belts. Would the 92 be a closer match? I know they are different I just dont want to want my time heading out to the wreckers to find out that its not compatible at all. I appreciate any suggestions here. (Still cannot believe that I bent the balancer, sigh)
  4. Ok looks like I have taken a step back. The balancer isnt like any of the ones I have seen online so when I tried to use the vice grips to hold it back (the air compressor wasnt enough to remove the bolt). Long story short I have bent and looks like cracked the balancer. I simply do not have 400$ to replace it nor do any of the local wreckers have any compatible years... sigh...
  5. Hello everyone! I wondered if anyone had a replacement solution for the timing cover bolt grommets? There are a couple that seem to be ok but they are all brittle and/or cracked etc. I do not feel good reusing them so wondered if anyone had a direct solution I could head over to CT, PartValue, PartSource, or Princess Auto to get right away without having to wait to be ordered as it all goes back together today.
  6. Thank you. Using air tools is new for me so wanted to be sure before I broke something or hurt myself.
  7. Excellent. Thank you Cuong! Would I still need to brace the balancer in some way? Like for example with vice grips? Would just having it in gear, without battery or plugs installed be enough?
  8. Would an air impact wrench with the 27mm impact socket remove the harmonic balancer bolt? I mean opposed to breaker bar, or turning over the engine to break the nut. I have most of it disassembled now. Man lots of little metal slugs from the water pump all over the place inside there. Had a few issues with the hoses as they were seated on pretty good. Is there a product that I can get to put on the hoses when I reassemble to help them seat back? I thought I had read someplace about something but man if I could remember the name.
  9. Excellent! Thank you. I looked past that diagram without ever putting 2 and 2 together that those were adjusters. I didnt want to just start removing bolts so thought best to ask. Glad I did!
  10. Ok thank you.. On the compressor. Is there only one bolt for the adjustment. FSM/HA-20 shows I think only one bolt..but the there are also bolts for the mounting plate as well.. Is there just a single adjustment bolt to get the belt off?
  11. It has been an up and down road but seems to be leveling out work is getting scarce but outside of that I am living as well as I could be expected. Thank you for asking. The weather beat me today. Wind picked up and dropped the temp so will make another go of it tomorrow morning. Sometimes I think "someone/thing" is trying to tell me something =) To bad I am as deaf as I am stubborn =)
  12. Ironically it was quieter in the Pathfinder before I cleaned it out. Now when set to high you cannot even hear the radio anymore The blower motor is a loud bugger.
  13. Heya Adamzan! How are your? will the imperial have any play or will it fit snug? I have the 27mm socket now so just more of a point of knowledge.
  14. Warr, sorry to center you out specifically. Do you happen to remember what page in the FSM or what section it would be in? Referring to the marks on the balancer. I did not see anything in the FSM but that doesn't mean I missed it or wasn't looking in the right section. Also, I know I need to do the belt at TDC but after that what degree out of TDC should the pathfinder be for Canada? Do I just leave it when I have the belt changed? and one more silly question. Can I use something other than a feeler gauge for the tensioner? Like can I use a little shim of wood or metal that is about the same thickness as the FSM suggests? 0.35mm(0.0138") thick and 12.7mm(0.5") wide. I do not have access readily to a feeler. Thought I had two but they have been misplaced and no more time to head to the part/tool store Again thank you all for your help. I would be marginally lost without all of your insight and experience. Thank you.. (Hope to be able to eventually help others as I have been helped)
  15. Appreciate the responses everyone. Thank you very much! Ok sounds like I will just try to remove the plugs to make life easier. I have a sparkplug toolset so I will use that. I tried to remove a plug a year back and stopped because it seems like I would break the plug. I will just go for it and see where it takes me.. Do not need a breaker bar in the forehead Will the distributer be pointing to the #1 cylinder on both the compression and the exhaust strokes or only on the compression stroke?
  16. Excellent information. I read someplace through my travels that the first notch (from the top, going clockwise) on the balancer is -5 degrees and that the second one is 0 degrees. Would that sound correct to you? I have the FSM but that information doesn't seem to be provided (unless I am not looking on the right page in the correct section, not withstanding). it was also suggested to remove all the spark plugs.. Unless I break one I wont be replacing any of them this time around and i will have to do it in the spring. So I want to remove as few as possible to reduce the chance of breaking any of them. Site was suggesting the removal of the spark plugs to make it easy to turn the crank shaft. One further question. Can I use gasket maker with a paper gasket? Specifically the water pump gasket. I have silicone for the thermostat housing. The instructions suggest it is used for water pump applications but would rather use the ultra copper. Just not sure if I can or if the Ultra copper is for no gasket applications (metal-metal). Again pardon all the stupid questions and thank you very much for the prompt replies. I appreciate it huge!
  17. Hey everyone! Hope all are doing well.. Had a question about the various methods you all use to find TDC on the compression stroke. I have seen a number of videos that use modified compression testers, using rope and screw drivers. Even saw one video about checking the rocker positions and the timing mark on the harmonic balancer.... I am a little daunted by this task as it needs to be done properly. So I am reaching out to the community to get an assessment on what has and does work best for you gals/guys.. Is there a very simple, fail safe manner in which to perform this task.. I know a pretty stupid question. I am going to head out and start the disassembly and will check back in a couple hours. (seems the wind has picked up so maybe not) I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
  18. Thank you for the tips. I opted to pick up the 2 arm 4" puller.. I have the damndest luck with this truck and things just do not come off "easy" =) I will indeed try the light tapping just to see but at least I have a puller just in case. This is one of those jobs I need to get in and out of in a day, two, tops due to accessibility to the garage. Not heated either.. Another find pathfinder repair brought to you by the winters of Alberta. =) Again thank you. About the bolt. any chance you can verify that its 27mm
  19. Like would this do the trick and be large enough to pull the balancer? See here Or this one of the 2" isnt large enough? See here
  20. Hey everyone! Been a very long time! I hope everyone is well! I think I am finally back on the road to recovery (knock on wood) so will be a bit more active again and can get back to my Pathfinder =) With that said, I was wondering a few things. The bolt holding the harmonic balancer, is this a 27mm bolt? Can I remove this bolt with an impact wrench? Additionally does anyone have a suggestion on a harmonic balancer puller that isnt 50$ cdn? Is there a recommended tool from princess auto or CT that I should be looking for? Water pump seized the other day when I started her up. Then seem to free itself. when I went out yesterday to start it again there was this clattering under the hood only to find that the water pump spindle (the part the fan and clutch assembly is connected to) is literally broken right off..So I have the waterpump, I have the timing belt and tensioner. So only thing left I can determine is how to get everyting apart as simply as possible. Have looked over a couple vids that explained it reasonably well but they always seem to SKIP over the removal of the balancer pully. Anyhow glad to be back! Long live NAPORA! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  21. Nice to see things are back working. Cheers! Thanks for the responses. I will pick up a 13" wiper next time I am through CT or Walmart. Again thank you all for the responses. I was going to pick up a 15" but looking at it I got to wondering if not only it wouldn't fit onto the arm but also how much window it would scrape over. Thought I would ask the folks here who have much more experience with Pathfinders. Cheers!
  22. Yea the whole unit. The main arm looks ok but its all bent up and such from that point on. Never would have thought to just get replacement wiper blade material Thanks for the idea. I will however need the whole blade this time.
  23. I have been to CT, AutoValue etc, no one seems to have a number on the proper rear wiper size. Can anyone tell me what the size? Is it just a 17"? Maybe someone has some book numbers for the correct blade to buy. It is crazy every book I have looked at, Walmart, CT, etc as mentioned all have a blank space where the rear size and number should be.
  24. After a few days of leveling out, the brakes seem to be working excellently in the rear. Even the emergency brake seems to have tightened up a bit and is within spec. Thanks for the information. Granted I did it the hard way and removed each wheel and inspected everything, I learned something important, look for the rubber stopper in the back of the brake housing and use the spoon All good now. Cheers!
  25. Was put onto this thread thankfully. Had a terrible fishy smell sometimes. There may be still some other issues like maybe antifreeze leaking from the heater core... Didn't see any damage except for some fins dented in so will keep an eye open. Otherwise like everyone else here seems it was time to get that done before a fire started. Here is the damage mine was when I removed the resistor block. I had removed a bunch of crap before taking the image. She was almost completely filled up. The entire bottom was packed from the bottom up tight. Surprised I got any air at all to be honest. Might have been a dead mouse in there too, not sure as the vacuum seems to suck it up fast. Looked like something furry went out... So happy. Great thread!
